Fault code 19464 help

Featured Replies

Help require please. Car died suddenly at the exit of a motorway and wouldn't restart. No EML or anything, all lights went out as normal. Turned over but refused to start.

Got it recovered home and scanned with VCDS Lite.

1 Fault Found:
19464 -  Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): Signal Out of Range
            P3008 - 00-00 -   -
Readiness: N/A

No fault code on Ross Tech wiki (closest was 19463/P3007/012295 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40): No Signal) Bit of Googling suggests the belt's slipped :( )

How likely is that (belt was done a few years back and car has been fine)? Change the sensor first or something else?

TIA

It does sound like the belt has gone, the only way to be certain is to insert the locking pin in the cam pulley and look at the timing mark on the crank pulley to see if it's out of alignment.

Diagnostics suggest ruling out sensor fault and wiring faults along with checking cam position. Below is a snippet from a document about Octavia with ASZ engine, so the fact that it mentions the 74kW engine specifically for the last check may be significant, or not, dunno.

19464 Camshaft pos. sensor => Sender -G40
Signal outside tolerance
– Test camshaft position sensor -G40

– Remove open circuit in wiring or short circuit

– Test position of camshaft and sensor rotor -  1.9/74 kW (TDI) Engine.
