Headlights

Featured Replies

I recently bought an 06' vRS and so far I think it's pretty awesome!

I've had a good look through the forum and read various posts about headlights.. Mine has xenons which I guess was an option when it was new? They don't seem to be as bright as xenons I've had on other cars..

As I understand the dipped beam is H7 and main is H3? Can anyone confirm? Are there any options to improve the brightness? Also, do they auto-level? I can't seem to find a dial anywhere inside to adjust the height.

One last thing! Can any recommend a HID kit for my main beam? I want the colour to be as close to the dipped as possible, 4300k? 6000k?

TIA

H7 and H3 are halogen bulbs only. Main beam is H7 halogen for cars equipped with xenon dipped beam bulbs.

Xenon dipped beam bulbs are D2S

Xenons are self-levelling - there is a sensor on the passenger side of the rear axle. However, the beam can be manually adjusted.

Even with plasma discharge dips, you'll almost certainly have halogen mains, because they light much faster than PDs do.

If yours is equipped with genuine factory xenons and they are the original Hella units then prob by now the projector bowl itself inside the light unit is getting tired.

My late 06 yellow one still has the original factory fix Xenon units in place, lenses are immaculate but like you the actual light output seems poor  compared to modern xenon equipped cars.

Conversely I've fitted brand new DEPO xenons into my black fabia which again is a genuine factory fit xenon car and they are superb, beam pattern, reach and spread are much the same as a new car would be.

Not or much more you can do with them I'm afraid apart from make sure they're aligned ok etc

By the way, on factory xenons, the dipped beam is a D2S bulb and main beam is a halogen H7

Sidelights are the same as normal Fabias - 501 type cap less bulbs

Thanks! So my only real option is to replace the headlight units? Replacing the D2S bulbs will make no difference I assume?

I replaced the original bulbs with new Osram D2S's in the yellow one and it made very little difference, you could try??

Bulbs are cheaper on line than the link you put up, I paid about £70 for two Osram bulbs off the net

I found some GE bulbs in Halfords, £35 each with a trade card. Ill probably just try and source a pair of new headlights!

Another possibility occurs; do your headlight shields look as if they've been lightly sanded? If so you'll get much better output by polishing them clear again.

Check your bulbs to rule them out. If they are really cloudy in the middle then they are likely old/worn.

As you can see in my picture the old ones (brown strip) are quite cloudy and the light output had become poor.
