Flimsy wire to rear disc assembly?

Featured Replies

Just finished washing and cleaning the MKIII 1.2 and came across a very flimsy and vulnerable looking single strand strand white wire making its way to (I think) the rear disc brake assembly.

Anyone in this knowledgeable community know (a) if it should be like this? (b) what is it?, and (c) is there a better way of securing it?

Many thanks!

Any pictures ??

Good advice! This is the view in through the rear offside wheel. A neighbour has a new model Polo, which is similar in many respects, but doesn't have this wire evident.

Could be for an ABS sensor.

Looks like that's what it is

If you follow this wire up, through the under into the car, then under the rear passenger seat you will find it there also. I think it's the tyre pressure sensor connections.  I also have them.

That would be the Electronic Stability Control sensors then as the TPMS works from(edit) that.

So a rather important system more than just a warning of a tyre deflating.

They don't have Independent pressure sensors

It works via TCS and abs and detects variance in wheel speed

Hence if all 4 tyres deflate at the same rate you won't get a warning

So no warning when driving over a police stinger device then,I'll have to be careful.

Them panning in your windscreen and side window with extending batons will be clue enough.
