Future as in about 10-20 years!

They only stopped making the MK1 VRS' 11 years ago.

Current classics (Mk1/2 Golf GTi / RS Turbos / 205 GTi etc) are at least 28 years old!
Even 106 GTi's are around 18-20 years old.

A while yet.

Just saying. Future classic? Give it 10 years. And if we go the same way as other countries, we won’t be allowed to drive a diesel now in 10-15 years.

Did you have anymore thoughts about a tickle with the remapping stick Simon?

To be honest with how little I am using the Car currently I couldn't justify doing it, It will stay standard I reckon.

Timing Belt & Water Pump, Service, Tax and Insurance all due September/October...Best part of £700 pumped into the Car which is currently only been used in my spare time.

Not that I am begrudgingly doing all of the above, Its always money no object with my Cars regardless but a Remap is a nice to have and not really essential.

I have this for when I want to have some fun which ties up some resources, It also comfortably destroys pretty much most things on the road :D...

4/9/18...

Dropped the Car off Yesterday morning at my Friends Garage, As I mentioned before I have known him for many Years and he is One of the few People I trust with my own Cars. That and the fact he was Ex-Vag before setting up himself so knows his way around these Cars very well indeed.

He carried out a Major Service and Rear Discs and Pads a Year ago/September 2017 and since the Fabia had only covered 6000 Miles since then it only required a Lube Service this time however it was 4 Years since the Timing Belt was last replaced so I popped to my Local TPS as always and bought all Genuine Parts. Yesterday the Car had the following...

Interim Service

: Genuine Oil Filter P/N S071115562C

Quantum Platinum 5W40 Fully Synthetic Engine Oil

: Genuine Sump Plug & Washer P/N N90813202

Timing Belt and Water Pump Change

Genuine Timing Belt Kit P/N 038198119A

Genuine Water Pump P/N 045121011H

G13 Coolant 1.5 Litre Bottles X 2

Gates Drive Belt 6PK1180

Genuine Coolant Expansion Bottle P/N 6Q0121407B (Replaced for Aesthetics)

Genuine Coolant Bottle Cap P/N 3B0121321

Also when I was in the Engine Bay a few Weeks ago probably Cleaning something I noticed Oil Residue around the Engine Cover and the Oil Filler Cap was weeping, Also One of the Windscreen Washer Jets had fallen to bits so was not putting a proper spray pattern out so I also replaced those...

Genuine Oil Filler Cap P/N 06B103485C

Genuine Windscreen Washer Jet P/N 5J0955985, Also replaced some of the Washer Tubing under the Scuttle Panel too.

During the Service/Timing Belt Change my Mechanic went through the Whole Car as he did last Year and again when he MOT'd the Car in Feb and found nothing at all to advise apart from...

Worn Barbs on the Lower Intercooler Hose, He removed some of the Intercooler Pipework to allow Access to the remove Timing Belt and noticed the Barbs where rounded off. He test drove the Car after rebuilding everything and it was fine. When I collected the Car he mentioned that at some point soon the Lower Hose might need replacing and I know after fitting one on my last Fabia VRS back in 2015 that these are a fairly common part to fail.

Well sure enough after about 10 Miles of Driving I got nearly Home and as I turned the corner at the bottom of my Street and the Lower Hose popped off  :D I knew what it was straight away and with only a few Hundred Meters left to go to get to my House drove it straight into the Garage, Left the Car to Cool down, Put the Car on Axle Stands and removed the Undertray. The Hose had as with my last Fabia VRS blown out from the Intercooler side and once removed I could see the Barbs where all rounded off so this morning I rang TPS and ordered a Genuine replacement which should arrive tomorrow.

Genuine Lower Intercooler Hose P/N 6Q0145832C

Although I don't mind spending on my Cars, I do feel the price of this part is absolutely extortionate but I am not going to bodge it by drilling it and putting self tappers in etc.

Think that is about it for now :)

Still got it :D

Yup I have come this far so I think I might as well go for 2 Years of Ownership which will be in Feb 2019!

The Temperature has started dropping rapidly and I have noticed the Gritters have been out the past couple of Nights so I have fitted the Steelies with Winter Tyres put the Fabia into Winter Mode today, I could to be fair probably get away with leaving the Alloys fitted with the Uniroyal RS3's but the Alloys are still totally Mint and unmarked since I had them refurbished in Spring 2017 and they have only been used through the Summer Months so I would like to keep them in that condition.

As usual I gave the Alloys a thorough Wash, Dry, Removed any Tar deposits and stuck a Layer of Wax on them before putting them away in the Garage.

I also stuck the Car on Axle Stands and gave the Wheel Arches a good clean using the Pressure Washer, Then Snow Foamed them, Rinsed, Pat Dried and then fitted the Steelies.

Have to admit having the Steelies/Winter Tyres fitted doesn't do much for the looks of the Car but its all about Function.

Couple of Crappy Phone pics...

19/2/19, MOT Time....

Its that time of Year again, Cannot believe I have had the little Fabia 2 Years already!

The car is now on 80445 Miles so I am averaging around 6000 Miles per Year since buying it, Its still doing everything I want it to and I keep looking at other Cars and then go full circle and decide to just keep the Fabia.

Last Week I did my usual drive down to my Dads which is just down the A1 and managed 62MPG with ease, On my back however I noticed a Creaking coming from the Front Suspension area at Low Speed and when going over light bumps, I took the Car to the chap who MOT's/Services it and after a Full Steering/Suspension check we traced it to Seized Anti Roll Bar Drop Links. There was no play in anything but rather the opposite the Ball Joints on the OSF Link Where Seized solid and where more of an annoyance more than anything else.

I opted for a Genuine Pair of Drop Links from TPS Part No: 6R0411315 and new Nuts also, I could have got some Meyle HD's a bit cheaper but to be honest they had them in Stock at TPS and I couldn't be bothered tor Drive around to Euro Car Parts or GSF to save a few quid.

The Fabia flew through its MOT this Morning with the only Advisory being about Engine Covers and Undertrays fitted, So basically another full clean bill of Health which considering its now a 15 Year old Car is impressive and reinforces my decision for keeping hold of it.

After the MOT the new Anti Roll Bar Links where fitted and a quick road test saw that the Creaking noise had now gone, With the Front wheels removed a closer inspection showed that the outer CV Boots are getting a little Perished and although they are not currently a problem and would probably be fine I am going to get him to fit a new Pair of CV Boots including some new Bottom Ball Joints while he is doing it just for piece of mind.

All in all cannot complain! I reckon once February is out of the way I will get the Alloys refitted, Give the Calipers a freshen up and carry out a post Winter Detail ready for hopefully another long/dry Summer this Year.

11/3/19...

Well last Week with the great Weather we had I decided to give the Car its usual Bath and removed the Steelies to give the Wheel Arches a thorough clean with the Karcher, I knew the good Weather wasn't here for long so decided not to refit the Alloys yet but its a good job I had removed the Steelies because...

Nothing Major but spotted a minute amount of CV Grease on the inside of the Steel Wheel, Sure enough closer inspection and I found there was a Pin Hole in the NSF outer CV Boot.  Sods law the Car has only been MOT'd 2 Weeks prior but fair enough it could have been missed as the Pin Hole was right next to the Clip.

Not a Job I wanted to do myself so booked the Car in with my Ex-Vag friend for this Morning.

Decided not to mess about and to get both sides replaced as I imagine they are the originals and 14 Years old so if One wants replacing the other wont be far behind, Also since to replace the CV Boots requires the Ball Joints un-bolting or Splitting to also get a fresh Pair of Lower Ball Joints fitted at the same time for what they cost.

After a quick search on here I opted to go for a Pair of Genuine VAG CV Boots which come in kit form Part Number 6Q0498203B, Sourced them from TheSkodaShop Online. For the Bottom Ball Joints I went for some Lemforder's from ECP Part Numbers 617440615 & 617440625.

Since the Car was going to the Garage today and since I am going to fit the Alloys back on very soon last night I also had an Hour removing the old Balance Weights and Weight Residue with the Caramel Wheel and Tar Remover, Then Polished and Sealed the Alloys. Got them all Re-Balanced and the pressures set today so they are all ready to be refitted.

Also not Fabia related but I had all the Lighting upgraded in the Man Cave today, When I had the Garage built in 2017 and had an Electrician install the Plugs/Lights etc he only put 2 x Fluorescent Tubes in which have been fine but there where quite a few Dark area's. A good friend of mine came up to look at one of my other new Toy's a few Weeks ago who is also a very experienced Electrician and got onto the Lighting and possibly options. So today he removed the 2 x Flourescent's and fitted 4 x 5ft NVC Pheonix High Output LED Battens...Difference is unreal and will come in handy when Detailing or simply doing any other tasks in there, Well worth doing!

Couple of pics...

Loving the LED lights Simon, they are awesome when detailing under but be warned they are very unforgiving!! You see every little tiny mark that's simply not visible in daylight, so don't drive yourself mad chasing perfection under them.

The green bike thingy looks ok as well.....

18/3/19...

As promised and it has been well overdue, I gave the Fabia an Enhancement Detail over the course of Yesterday. Probably put a good 12 Hours in overall and finally closed the Garage up around Midnight!

Its a bit long winded but I will go through the process and products used incase anyone wants to know, Its my usual process when it comes to Detailing the Car with the addition of Paint Decontamination after a Winter.

So I Started with...

: Car placed on Axle Stands and Winter Steel Wheels removed.

: Full thorough Rinse including Wheel Arches and Sill Bottoms using Karcher K2.
: Pre-Wash using Autobrite HD Snow Foam Lance and Magifoam, Left for 5 Minutes to Dwell.
: Full thorough Rinse.
: 2-Bucket Wash using Meguairs NXT Shampoo & Lambswool Mitt.
: Towel Dried using Elite Car Care Plush Drying Towel.
: Paint Decontamination using Carpro Iron-X fallout remover, Left for 5 Mins, Agitated with a Soft Sponge.
: Thoroughly Rinsed.
: Towel Dried again.
: Full Tar Removal, Applied Carpro Tar-X, Left for 5 Mins.
: Thoroughly Rinsed.
: 2 Bucket Wash again.
: Clayed using Meguiars Medium Clay and Quick Detailer Spray as Lubricant.
: Rinsed.
: Towel Dried.

Stuck the Steelies on temporarily and then pulled into the Garage for the Paint Correction/Wax Stage...

: Again Car placed on Axle Stands and removed Wheels

: Masked all Window Rubbers, Black Plastics etc
: Single Stage Machine Polish using DAS6-Pro, Meguiars 205 Finishing Polish and Hexlogic White Pad. Removed using Autoglym Microfibre Cloth.
: Hand Polished all Door Shuts and Sill Bottoms using Autoglym Super Resin Polish.
: 2 x Coats of Collinites 845 Apllied left 30 Mins to cure prior to removal, Bottle left in Bucket of Warm Water to help liquefy Wax. Applied by Hand, Removed using Autoglym Microfibre Cloth.
: Final Wipe over with Elite Buffing Towel and Quick Detailer Spray.

Other Exterior...

: Autoglym Fast Glass on all Windows.
: Autoglym Glass Polish on all Windows except Front Screen.
: Engine Bay given a De-Grease using GT85 and Microfibre.
: Dressed using Autolym Vinyl and Rubber Care and Microfibre to wipe off excess.
: Exhaust Tailpipe Polished using Autosol.

Wheels, Tyres and Brakes...

: Alloys where refurbished in 2017 but only get used during better Weather and are still immaculate. These where fully Deep Cleaned, Polished and Sealed a few Weeks ago. Also removed all the old Balance Weights using the Caramel Wheel for the Glue, Had them Rebalanced.
: Wheel Arch-liners & Mudflaps Dressed using Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care.
: Brake Calipers Degreased, Lightly rubbed to give the new paint a Key and then Repainted using Paragon Paints High Temp Semi Gloss Paint in Pantone 348C.

Beautiful as ever! Love the fact that it's still on the OE exhaust to.

Such a rare sight to see one that's not been slammed to the deck having it's arse wrung out of it

Thanks mate, Must admit looking at how good it looks makes me wonder how I could ever consider selling it.

I still look on a regular basis and see 4-5 Year old Cars that are not a patch on the Fabia Condition wise.

Fantastic effort, as always!

I think the less that are around like this, the more satisfying it is to see one in this condition. So thanks for sharing B)
