Reversing camera adjustment (alignment)

Featured Replies

Does anyone know the procedure for aligning the reversing camera vis-a-vis the lines in the display? I find my camera is off a bit.. if I center the car in a parking space according to the lines in the camera view, in real life the car ends up about 20 cms too far over to the right. Surely this must be adjustable somehow (by pointing the camera)?

I doubt if you'll get an answer here as I don't believe that the reversing camera has been fitted in the UK. Hopwever you might have more success in the VW Golf forum.

Sorry Fred, but it is an option here.

I have ordered a rear view camera on my new Yeti. It arrived in UK last week so, hopefully, get it by end of March. Are the lines you refer to those where the car should go with the current wheel lock or something else?

I have the camera fitted to my car it seems to align fairly well but then I tend to use the mirrors as part of the final alignment.

Depending on version, the lines might either bend with the steering lock, or be straight and just indicate a "box" of Yeti dimensions behind the car. I have the latter, simpler version but as I said - the indicated "box" isn't properly centered so not usable for "aiming".

If the lines don't move with lock how do you aim for the box?

It's surprisingly easy. You just can't use the camera view for aiming from quite as far away, but when you're within a meter or so of entering your space straight lines are perfectly fine.

Is it worth the money, toying with adding it to my order?

I think it's absolutely brilliant. Especially when backing up to a trailer; but in any other case as well.

Has the camera got a wide angle of view? For example when reversing out of a parking space can you see "sideways" much to look for approaching cars/pedestrians?

The video clip below is of a Golf, but it appears to be exactly the same setup (not the same head unit, but the image on the screen is identical):

The camera is a brilliant bit of kit and well worth it and it does err on the safe side but with the sensors and the audio / on screen video display it's brilliant.

I use the 3 mirrors and can't stand looking at the image from the camera....other than, maybe, a quick peek

I think the whole reversing camera thing is a bit of distraction from basics of correct mirror use .

Its become an item for motoring journalists to bang on about endlessly.

I've got it but hate it

I never thought I had need for a camera until I bought a kia 6 years ago and it came fitted as std and was already fitted on the yeti when I got it, I don't particularly rely on it ,after driving a van with only wing mirrors for help for many years but (looking back on it) it would have saved a lot of damage repairs to the rear steps and doors....I look upon it as a very useful extra aid for detecting low objects not visible in the wing mirrors when reversing.I also have the park asst which I cant remember the last time I used so if only having the choice of one of these options it would definitely be a camera every time.

My sensors do a good job .

I reverse into my garage and the camera distortion makes me queasy beyond a quick glimpse

I tired my camera alignment this morning by reversing into an parking slot and aligning the camera marking with the car park markings and stopping when I could see the rear car park marking, pretty accurate when we looked.
