VW should rename the Arteon "The Tease" as once ordered customers have no idea when it will arrive a bit like Brexit.

  • With all the shared platforms and collaborations out there today (not just VAG) most cars fall under that category so even if it is, it doesn't mean much to me to be honest. It is a great looking car

  • I thought this new VW was a replacement to the CC? With a higher price point. Bit bigger, better quality.   It's not as big as the Phaeton was I don't think.

  • All the manufacturers gave probably been struggling to figure out how to cheat the new regulations... (yes... lets face it, ALL manufacturers....)

And 20% each of those who ordered one thought they were getting an Up!, 20% a Polo, 20% a Golf, 20% a Passat and 20% a T-Roc.

  • 2 weeks later...

Can’t believe I’ve only just found this thread - ordered mine 6 months ago and it finally arrived last Thursday.

Yes, it’s Urano grey but I quite like it. I also liked that it saved me £25 a month on my lease.

FWIW I think it looks much better than anything else similar out there, no doubt I’m a little biased and it’s all subjective anyway. Yes, it’s mostly a Passat in a fancy frock but it is a VERY nice frock. Try speccing an Audi to make it equivalent and you’ll find it suddenly costs a silly amount more.

I’m completely in love with it :inlove:

Its a much nicer fancy frock than a golf in its ball-gown (scirocco)

I have seen a few on the road now, and its does look good :)

I’d be interested to know what you think of the latest Mazda3 Astina .

Apparently they intend to go more upmarket with their pricing and I can understand why........it’s pretty swish inside.....cool classy minimalist.

On road in Australia <£25K

Edited by Ryeman

My last Superb in 2016 an SE with a few options was £23,650 and it may not be as pretty as the Arteon but it had a very similar engine (1.4TSi manual) could achieve 50mpg every day on my commute and would regularly give over 700 miles from the 66 litre tank. Try buying (not leasing) an Arteon for under £24,000 NEW.:mmm:

It looks nice, don’t know a great deal about it to be honest. Nice to see manufacturers making some attempt to change up designs a little.

There’s no doubt that the Arteon is more expensive than the Superb (IMO it’s also nicer) but comparing it against the almost base spec SE is a bit unfair. The two are leagues apart in terms of standard spec and the L&K is a much fairer comparison, like for like, at which point the money doesn’t seem so different.

I see that the SE spec Arteon starts at £31,845 and guess you get the 148bhp 1.5TSi engine for that money. My Superb had Sat Nav and Canton included in the price I quoted so was hardly poverty spec. Just struggling to see how VW can charge £8,000 more for what exactly?

Well, I can’t work out what the SE spec actually is. It started appearing on things a few weeks ago but I can’t actually find it on VW website, so I’ve no idea what it does or doesn’t include. It’s probably not entirely fair to compare a 3 year old price either, as the prices have gone up since then.

Arteon Elegance and R-Line Arteon trims are virtually the same, R-Line just has larger wheels, different body styling and slightly different seats. So this is the Elegance trim vs SE Superb trim:

18" alloys vs 17"

Nappa leather seats, heated in front vs cloth and not heated

Predictive ACC vs ACC

3 zone climate vs 2 zone

Full LED self levelling headlights

12.3" virtual cockpit vs analogue with B&W trip computer

Part electric driver seat vs manual seats

Full size alloy spare vs tyre repair kit

interior ambient lighting vs none

Lane assist vs none

Privacy glass vs none

That’s what I can remember, think it’s all about correct. It’s clearly a much higher specced car than the Superb SE trim so not comparable.

You can also now only get the Arteon in petrol form as the 2.0 190 engine with DSG which makes it £35k list price. The equivalent L&K is nearly £300 more on list price, but that does have a few more things as standard than the Arteon. SE L seems the most directly comparable trim, and that’s £30.5k. Show me any VW that isn’t a couple of thousand more than the equivalent Skoda. Whether it’s worth that or not is entirely up for debate!

How much does your Passat (sorry Arteon) weigh? Mine was only 1,320kg so with 148bhp also 0-60mph was 8.6 seconds. Mine had privacy glass and I bought a set of 18" alloys and tyres for around £880 which I now use on my 245 during the winter months.

It’s 245kg heavier but only 0.3 seconds slower to 62mph. And you need to add £900 onto your cost of you want to include those wheels 🤣

I seem to recollect that when I was comparing the R-Line to my S3 L&K, the L&K had some of the nicer 'extras' as standard - but I can't remember what they were now.

I like the quote 'You can also now only get the Arteon in petrol form as the 2.0 190 engine with DSG' as mine (now cancelled) is still showing as build week confirmed - but no idea when that is. It's only 11 months since it was ordered!

- Rear cam

- Ventilated front seats (hadn’t realised that was now standard!)

- heated rear sears

- electric tailgate

- heated windscreen

- park assist

They seem to be the main things. Although I’ve just spotted that the L&K no longer has tri zone climate, which it used to, but the ventilated front seats are probably a bigger gain there.

Yes, that is pretty ironic and I didn’t twig when I wrote it. I guess they’ll just build it and send to a dealer as a demonstrator. Someone on the Facebook group who’s been waiting a year has just had his delivered today. It’s a shame they’ve dropped the 1.5 in a way, it’s a surprisingly decent engine in the car although the 190 makes more sense.

Order today - get 2020 maybe?

Wow £10,000 more than the wife's Karoq what a bargain. Same power and even comes with ACT to make the diesel clatter quieter.:D

They fail to mention the cloth interior they’ve decided to put in it, by all accounts. Also, at the start of the article they say it has an 8" touchscreen but then at the end it’s a 9.2" like all new MY models...great journalism there 🙄

Ah well, I love mine still and it was pretty cheap for what it is.

  • 3 weeks later...

Another update - it's left the factory and will be at the dealer in 4 weeks.

So that would make a grand total of 54 weeks from ordering to delivery.

You could always tell them you are;) interested in buying it. The face lift version will be out soon.

I guess I’m biased but I’d be putting that dosh into the ‘future’  - if you know what I mean.
