VW's Arteon to replace Phaeton

Only just spotted this thread so maybe a good idea to keep an eye on it as I've got one on (a long lead time ) order!

Nice choice. I've seen a handful on the road and in the right colour look very nice. Not sure it's worth the extra outlay over an equivalent Superb though.

  • With all the shared platforms and collaborations out there today (not just VAG) most cars fall under that category so even if it is, it doesn't mean much to me to be honest. It is a great looking car

  • I thought this new VW was a replacement to the CC? With a higher price point. Bit bigger, better quality.   It's not as big as the Phaeton was I don't think.

  • All the manufacturers gave probably been struggling to figure out how to cheat the new regulations... (yes... lets face it, ALL manufacturers....)

It's a good job that I'm still keeping the S3 L&K then. ;)

Agree about the standard things that you get from Skoda that are extra with the VW though.

When did 'hatchback' need to change to 'liftback'!?

Possibly when 'estate' changed to 'station wagon' after deciding 'combi' made it sound like a gas boiler.

You’re referring to the “trunk” region rather than the “hood” region.  Journalists copying Americans mostly.  Sad.

I did wonder too, and had to google... ages ago.

Paraphrasing -

A hatchback is a "2 box" shape design like a golf.

A liftback is a "3 box" saloon shape design like a passat, but which has a boot that opens like a hatchback, ie at the roof line rather than only "box 3" - an octavia..

A Sedan is a Saloon, and an Avant is an Estate / Combi / Shooting brake, a Sportback is often just a Hatchback & a Spaceback has not much space, certainly less than an Estate.

Lost in the Marketing & Translations.

I really like the look of these & considered one but i found them just too big a car for my needs, they look great in the metallic yellow colour.

Agreed.  The first one I saw was in a flat black colour and it looked absolutely awful.  Did not do the car any justice.   Have since sine an R design one in Turmeric and it looked absolutely stunning.

That’ll be the free colour - Urano Grey.

I’ve yet to come across anyone who likes it.

Should be quite good for Scottish Government Ministers rather than a Skoda Superb.

Odd that VW Group get them WLTP Approved before the best sellers Golf & Polo. Must be less versions to have done.

That's the one (just googled).  I can't see the point of getting a car with some very nice lines and details only to hide them with such a flat, totally unexciting colour.  (Though I like Meteor Grey so may not be the best person to critique colour choices)

As soon as 'Marketing' got involved.

Mercedes won’t lower themselves to use hatchback.  Nor the Japanese who consider it too practical rather than sophisticated.

Point of the Grey ones is comfortably getting someplace without too much attention.

The yellow one off in the distance moving quick might look to some like a Yellow Clio RS Turbo 1.6,  and then you see it is a big VW doing the undertaking and the likes.

  • 1 month later...

It is the beat looking VW in a while.. imo

  • 1 month later...

A little bit of an update from the dealer and they say that the latest from VW is they’re starting the WLTP tests in mid January so an optimistic delivery date is March or April.

Potentially a 7 or 8 month wait from ordering lol.

So they didn't know it was happening...pre-planned to test it before it all happened.

8 months wait for a VW..I'd have given up and gone elsewhere. Nice car or not haha.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait in the end.

To be fair they did initially say it’d be a 6 month lead time and at least it’ll get most of the bad weather out of the way before it arrives.

No doubt there’s other specific Skoda models that are being delayed with WLTP too?

Australia is in a holding pattern waiting for European supply, apparently due to the WLTP shemozzle

Probably. Didn't mean to cause offense or anything. Just they knew the rules were coming into effect so you'd have thought they would have been more prepared. Problems across a lot of manufacturers it seems!

I see they have put the 2.0 petrol in it now with 268bhp.

Just realised not sure why this is news...they had the 280bhp in it? The motoring press saying it now has the golf R engine but it already had!?!

Edited by Chris

As well to call the 272ps engine as it is, just what the Skoda Superb has.
