1.4 sport insurance as much as vrs

Featured Replies

Got a quote today on a comparison site for a 1.4 tsi, and was surprised to find that it is as much, if not more to insure than a vrs. Doesn't seem right to me

Have you driven a 1.4 TSI yet ?

Insurance is strange... last year it was about 10% more expensive for me to insure a Diesel MK3 VRS vs a Petrol one.

I've also just renewed my policy for a further 12 months, and my renewal was cheaper than anywhere else as a new customer - which almost never happens.

You didn't say if this was diesel or petrol.

It can't possibly be the petrol :D

Not much hp difference but quite a bit on torque (380 Nm vs 250 Nm)

Also might depend very much on the type of drivers of the 1.4 :D  i.e the more powerful vRS drivers are perversely safer better drivers ;P

Just had exactly the same thing.

I have driven a TSI, but the tst route was useless, so still not convinced. The comparison quote was with a vrs petrol

Insurance on petrol vRS ridiculously cheap IRO £200 p/a for me anyway. How can it get much cheaper regardless of engine option !

So maybe factoring there isn't much room for it to get much cheaper in many cases !

Many factors at work including age, location, etc etc.

I bet it would factor more heavily when you start to introduce age etc trying to insure the vRS over other models.

Are you comparing current quote with current quote? Car insurance has been going up lately, mine is about 20% more than last year (for the same car) and no amount of shopping around would bring it down again.

Also, it depends on your age/circumstances, but a couple of years ago I tried a few carefully chosen cars in a comparison site to see what difference it makes. Up to something like group 45 it was very reasonable, then the last 4 or 5 groups the curve goes like the side of a house!

My 1.4 TSi manual is about £160 p.a. but with high NCB etc. A lot depends on postcode and of course your own history, also I only do about 6000 miles a year.

But as mentioned before my renewal quotes have often been cheaper than the previous year (this is with eSure) and also cheaper than getting a new quote off compare sites, which I find very unusual.
