"European" license plates - what are they called?

Featured Replies

SWMBO reminded me to call the dealer and ask them to put "european" license plates on the new car, as it's should be here in a few weeks. What she means are make sure it's got plates on with the country mark on, so that we don't have to stick on a nasty magnetic GB sticker on the back when we toddle off to France.

It occurred to me that I'm not actually sure what those plates are called - do they have a specific name? And come to think of it, why aren't all plates just marked this way by default - I still see plenty of cars with just the straight plate on and no little flag.

words are hard.

Just called EU plates although you may only have a few years use out of them before going back to standard UK plates

Excellent. I'll call the dealer now and not feel like a tool! :)
