John Surtees RIP

Featured Replies

Hearing the sad news that John Surtees has passed away aged 83.

He still remains to this day as the only person to have won World Championships on both two and four wheels. Winning the 500cc championship in '56, '58, '59 and '60. Then the F1 title in '64.

A true legend and a gent.

So sad. :(

What a legend.

Top man John, in my early years of growing up and loving motor sport. Great memories!! Rest in Peace.

I met him once, he was running a bike up Shelsley Walsh hillclimb. No airs or graces, no big I am just happy to enjoy running his 'bike up the hill and chatting to people. He must have been in his mid sixties by then and he didn't hold back from giving his bike the Full Beans and putting in a pretty good time.

RIP John.

A proper racer and, by all accounts, a real gentleman as well.

What he achieved is unlikely to ever be repeated, and for that reason alone he deserves to be called a Legend.

One of a kind. GOAT as he did it on 2 & 4 wheels.
