It's time to upgrade things in the car now, advice needed plz

Featured Replies

Guys, I am very happy and thanking all of you who have been reading my posts with patient and helping me out to know my OCTAVIA ELEGANCE Pacific Blue in colour (By the way what version of Octavia would this be..First registered 2nd December 2013. 1.6TDi with 105bhp hatchback).

I have started liking it, especially the steering wheel. it feels very light, comfy and very easy to turn. to go around the roundabout or make a sharp turn is also amazing. No vibration in the steering or in the car. engine runs very quiet.

I couldn't find any section of upgrading or modification in this forum. I think ADMIN should do some Categories Like GENERAL, TECHNICAL, STYLING etc.

Anyway, what advice I want from you are as follows

1. Tint my rear windows to 20%..I got a deal for £70 with LTW

2. Upgrade the light all around inside, outside. I like whitish rather than yellow halogen type. especially for DRL. i definitely need to change to LED if possible or if anyone had done it please share me how did you do it. if it is to complicated and exorbitant then alternative option would be to go for SMD light bulb. but i had a closer look at the headlight unit today and it seems DRL and side light bulbs are same with two filament inside. So is there any similar light bulb with brighter whitish light?

3. What would be the headlight bulb replacement for whitish bulb (mine is not xenon or hid..its standard bulb and i hate it)

4. Courtesy bulbs, numberplate bulbs, glove box bulbs and boot bulbs. Are they easy to replace and what bulb i need to look for for brighter whitish output

5. Changing the tyres: 3 Michelins old 5 to 8years and tread depth 4mm,4.5mm, 5mm, 1hankook 2015 tread depth is 6mm. will it be wise to replace all of them and put some kind of brand new  budget tyres like Autogrip or Midrange Joyroad. I got a deal of £210 for  Autogrip and £220 for Joyroad

6. Finally want to upgrade the software for MIB1. at the moment i have 0421 and i got 0490. will it be wise to do it or just leave it as it is.

One more thing.. My car is due for brake fluid changing as the SKODA suggested me (3years first then every 2 years). shall i really need to do it now or i can overlook it until next service which i may do in July 2017.

Thank you everybody in advance.

No one had patient to read my post as it appears to be to demanding, isn't it? well, I will highly appreciate if anyone bothers to share their upgrade with me. btw, I have changed the tyres today.

4brand new with C rating for both energy efficiency and wet grip, 71dB , 94W xl

sounds like a downgrade on the tyres, wait until its wet and you will slide all over the place.

In terms of the headlights, if you dont have HIDs then go for osram nightbreakers. They arent going to change the colour but will be much brighter than cheap bulbs. You cant get white/blue halogen bulbs without seriously reducing the brightness. You only option for bright white is to go HIDs

Interior lights should all be fairly straightforward just a case of finding out what type of bulbs they require and buying some off ebay.

With the window tint, its just a case of if that's what you want then get it done

Brake fluid just get it changed as it shouldn't cost a lot and brake fluid is hygroscopic meaning it absorbs water which = spongy brakes if you have to work them hard

Ok I'll go first. Budget tyres are not an upgrade.

they are not budget tyre that I put now..Midrange tyres..and even their specifications are better than the tyres I had before.

Ok. You asked about fitting unknown brand budget tyres and then didn't fit them. Mid range tyres aren't an 'upgrade' either (ie better than standard original fitment).

It sounds like you have your own opinions on what you want. And why not?

But if you want 'upgrades'  please ask us  and we  may reply as and when we can from our own experiences.

Have you also now fitted the correct size of tyres as per the filler cap?

  • Author

Yes.. They are 225/45 17

Don't known your tyres but, you know your driving and maybe ok for you me, I spend 100 quid a corner but, I know my driving hence, I spend a lot.

Bulbs wise, the front of your car has H7 dipped beam, H8 Fog lights and H15 DLR/Main beam.

The night breakers mentioned previously are not available in H15 or H8. I went for the MTEC bulbs as they were the only make I could find with all the sizes hence, they all look the same colour/brightness.

You may not have noticed, but there was lots of views, so plenty of people read it, myself included. I actually wondered if you were serious...

But I thought, all of these questions have been answered many times before on here, so perhaps you 'didn't bother' searching?

As for tyres, sorry, but cheap tyres are only good for drifting on a track. Glad you got 'brand new' ones at least.

Is DLR and Main beam same bulb? i thought it was Side light (some called parking light) and DRL same bulb with two different filament inside

You are right, Many people viewed but no one replied. I knew that people would have asked same question already, but its very difficult to dig that deep..hence i suggested ADMIN if they can categorise the forum with GENERAL,TECHNICAL AND STYLING which would have been easy to find the answers that some one might need.

Yeah, that the H15 that does main beam and DLR's, the DLR's switch to a reduced output for the side lights. You'll need VCDS to alter that percent output otherwise, replacement bulbs will look a different colour at the lower side light setting

If I buy MTECH H15 do i still need to do VCDS coding for the side light, if yes then is it easy to do..or i have to take the car to the SKODA dealer to do it?

NB: Is it the right one on ebay   MTEC H15 55-15W Super White Halogen Upgrade Bulbs

Yes I've got the MTEC SUPER WHITE MT-448 which is a HID class halogen bulb in H15, H8 and H7.

You do realise these are just the wrong side of the brightness/colour law and therefore, not for road use. Mine has been passed Police and an MOT so, I don't think they're that much of a problem.

The H7 is also available in 100w but, that doesn't mean I recommend them the 55w are standard.

I don't have VCDS tools to alter the power output for side light..is there no other light bulb wich wouldn't need alteration for side light?

Which tyre brand/type did you fit eventually?  And what tyre pressure have you used (as per another thread)

Go to your local Briskoda meet, someobe will have a VCDS and generally everyone is happy to help, make a payment in beer tokens, its rude not to !!!

Its a 1.6TDI and the driver is concerned about MPG, kinda reckon it won't make a lot of difference. All tyres being the same will comfort the insurance company

To themanwithnoaim, I am no more concerned about the MPG...don't get me wrong..I have enough of it. Just paying attention to take good care of my car now.

I fitted Phillips X-treme 130% bulbs to the main beam on my Mk 2 Octavia (as i had a set of H.I.D bulbs in the dipped beam on the Octavia) have a set in the dipped beam on my Volvo & am very impressed with them so can recommend those bulbs as a upgrade. As for the tyres,i always buy the best i can afford, ive never heard of that make & cant even get a price on them from most of the usual suppliers, how much were they & where did you get them from?

Each to their own, but personally, there are two things where I never try to save: Tires and brakes.

Those little pieces of rubber that stand between your car and the road are all the contact points you have - I feel I should have the best I can afford in that department.

On my previous car, I had a front tire develop a bulge after driving into a pothole. I took it to get checked, cause I didn't notice the bulge and they told me they would need to change the tire.

Since I had just returned from holiday and they wouldn't release the car to me as it was, I told them to put the cheapest generic Chinese crap tires they had there on the front...

...how bad and dangerous they were.... :)

Thanks for sharing it. I used to use them with my previous car (Citroen C4). these bulbs are little more brighter than the standard one but not as whitish as I wanted. but still I will go for them if I can not find any other advice from anyone else.

Now about tyres: I wish if I could go for branded tyres like Michelin, Dunlop, Goodyear etc. but those would cost me a fortune where is these sporty and heavy load capacity tyres coasted me just £180 including balancing and fitting. they might not be branded but lets see how they go. even some expensive branded tyres you wouldn't find the wet grip, efficiency match both for C. I am very happy with weight load and speed rating wise as well.

I bought them from Romford Road, London.

I had couple of SMD LED light bulb (2x CANBUS 5 SMD LED 501 T10 W5W CAPLESS WEDGE WHITE SIDE LIGHT BULBS 5000K 6000K)  bought as side light bulb for my previous car and now i replaced front courtesy bulbs with these bulbs...wow..amazing..very bright white light. but I am wondering can side light bulb be used as inside courtesy light bulbs if they fit each other and same W5W..if yes then i may buy another three of those to change rear dome light.
