2008 Fabia 2 Estate 1.4 Tdi Gear selector problems

Featured Replies

Have just picked up a 2008 Fabia 2 estate 1.4 tdi PD2. It has 115,00 on the clock with 1 lady owner and FSH with 11 stamps in the book, and most of the receipts for all work carried out it is apparent no expense was spared and anything that needed doing was done to the car.

We are having difficulty selecting the right gear particularly when changing down 3rd to 2nd, locating 1st gear and reverse can also be difficult to locate (a bit hit and miss).

My local trusty mechanic has just given it a full service as well as new timing/cambelt water pump etc, He mentioned the gears being stiff and has lubed it up, ( i think that was what he said) and he thinks it is 50% better than it was, suggesting it could be the bell-crank.

I wonder it anyone others owners have had a similar problem.

I had a similar problem a few months ago, my problem was the gear linkage had starting to fray but I presume the mechanic would have looked at the linkage.

I think so as he had a similar problem on an Alfa Romeo and his hunch is the bell-crank is the problem. I have used this guy for around 5 years now and he is very good, as honest as they come and very reasonable . Gonna get him to have a look next week hopefully. Out of interest what was mileage on yours when the gear linkage started to fray?
