Specs for 17 inch wheels and rims needed

Featured Replies

Hello

Can someone please confirm the size specs and offset of the genuine Skoda 17-inch rims for the Rapid? Also, what size tyres they come with.

Contemplating moving from 15s to 17s, but want to keep to OE specs.

Thanks

Chris

Standard tyre size to fit 215/40R17

I had a set of 17s fitted late last year. (with oem Conti Premium Contact 2 tyres).

Plus: Great looks and flatter cornering.

Minus: Slightly firmer ride than 15s or 16s. Fuel consumption increased 10 to 15% on my daily run.

I'm actually contemplating going the opposite way!

Currently running 185/60/15 Continental winter tyres and have noticed a marked improvement in ride quality, comfort and noise, compared with the OEM Bridgestone Turanza's (215/45/16) and 16" Alloys.

I'd initially worried that fitting such small wheels / tyres would lead to a reduction in outright grip, but in general day-to-day use they've been fine. The Rapid (even in 105 BHP TSi form) is hardly a ball of fire and it may well be that I eventually fit 15" Michelin Cross Climates all year round.  Frustratingly the Cross Climates are not available in either 215/45/16, or 215/40/17.

Well i certainly can't speak highly enough of the Michelin Cross Climate tyres. I'm running them on all 4 corners in 185.60.15 and they've been nothing short of remarkable. As it stands I'm probably going off the idea of larger rims and lower profile and might just invest in a new set of 15s instead.

Agreed!

I have Cross Climates on my 4x4 Yeti and they've proved equally as adept in the snow as the 16" winter tyres / steel rims I'd run for the last few winters.

I've now decided to stick with these all year round and have sold the 16" winter tyres / steel rims.

It's frustrating these tyres aren't available to fit my Rapid. My 2014 SE Tech has 215/45/16 tyres which are an odd size and considerably more costly than more common sizes (205/55/16).

I've just changed back from my winter tyres (185/60/15) on steel rims and find the ride (and general harshness) on the 16's much worse, with no appreciable benefit (beyond aesthetics) in terms of increased grip. I can only imagine the even lower profile 17" wheels / tyres (? 215/40/17) further damage comfort levels.

I'm planning to move the car along shortly, but if I was keeping it long-term I'd definitely look for a set of 15" alloys and fit cross climates all year round.
