A bit of a dilemma

Featured Replies

Do I take my 10 year old Fabia for a trip to Darkside or go for a Fiesta ST-3?

I've been put off newer diesels with the DPF otherwise I'd be looking at a 335d touring, I do 450 miles a week so obviously I'd be better off with a diesel but after having test drove a ST-200 last week its the only car I've driven that's making me consider selling my Fabia which I've had for the last 8 years.

What would you do? Keep the fabia and get it upto 220bhp or go for a newer car?

Cheers.

Are you NUTS, the Beemer 335d touring is one of the quickest estate cars on the road (when tuned) and you're worried about the DPF?

You do 450 miles a week which means there is absolutely no chance the DPF will get clogged. It's like saying "I don't want a petrol engine because it has a catalyst which might go wrong".

I think I've got it planted in my head that DPF's are a big no go.

Seriously, why do you care, DPF problems are old news now, early ones did give trouble.

We still have problems with dpf on cars at work but there taxis so many pot around town. If your that worried you can get it removed and the software changed to suit the removal.

Buy the 335d estate... Serious car. Stop worrying about dpf's, as mentioned above, you do enough mileage. Get ready for back end action (is that a euphemism ;) )

My old MKIII Octavia Vrs Tdi (63 plate) spent most of it's life going 2 miles to work and 2 miles back with the occasionally long run

Never had DPF problems, never saw the light on the dash.

On the other hand, my wife's 15 plate leon fr diesel does 8 miles each way to work and the dpf light often comes on. After a good hoofing it goes back off again. it doesn't bother us in the slightest as its on a PCH deal.

Well, I've solved my dilemma... I've put a deposit down on a Octavia vRS which means many more years of briskoda.net :D

I'll be gutted seeing my little Fabia leave :(

It's up for sale in the classifieds if anyone is interested.
