Dump Valves/Turbo Whistle

Featured Replies

Ok I'm looking for advice and people's opinion!

1/. Dump valves, how are they fitted and do you need any extras?

2/. Turbo whistle, how is it achieved and what do you need to upgrade to achieve it?

Does anyone have either of these and what do people think of them?

Cheers Ste.

Looks like you have a diesel mate. It doesn't have a dump valve and doesn't need one as it has a variable geometry turbocharger.

Turbo whistle is produced by running high boost which your diesel doesn't run and the diesel has lots of sound deadening to limit the diesel noise which is drowned out by the fake engine noise device!

Sorry

Cheers for the reply MrAdamwood,

Yes mate I have a diesel so didnt think I could get Turbo Whistle (which I've seen on Top Gear ).

Can I not fit a dump valve?  What would I need to chandDon't think I ever will, just curious and 'mechanically challenged'

My 530d used to whistle like crazy when it was mapped...used to sound like a jet engine!

Definitely possible to get turbo whistle on a diesel.

I used to have a vw van 2.4 straight 6 td and had a straight through exhaust that had plenty of turbo whistle sounded like a beast :)

10 Minutes work and you should be able to have the Dirty Diesel sounding just like a Fast Subaru to the delight of all around.

Was literally laughing out loud here :)

Sometimes better to forget sounding quick or Naff / Chav and actually be able to go quicker.
