Engine rattle 1.4tsi

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Brand new user so please bear with me.

I have just started getting this rattle from the engine today and i am worried its the timing chain. I wonder if any of you can identify it.

The engine is 1.4tsi 125 in a 62 plate octavia.

As a bit of background, for the last month or so the engine has been slowly losing coolant and i was going to put it in the garage to get that rectified next month. Is there any chance the two are related?

Thanks in advance!

Noisey water pump bearing, and with the coolant loss my guess is thats where the leak is as well, i would book it in sooner rather then later; as this could lead to the vehicle overheating which may cause more damage then just a water pump.

Thanks, was thinking along those lines with the fluid loss. :)

NB The water is on an aux belt not the cam chain

I had exactly the same problem last week on my 1.4TSi 122hp.

A "rattle" coming from the rh side of the engine (looking from the drivers seat). Took it into the local specialist and they diagnosed a water pump bearing failure and sorted it the same day... :)  not had the bill yet but seeing as it was sorted in half a day I am hoping it is not too bad...

Quick update. Noise was the water pump on its last legs. Thanks guys.
