Brake Fade

Featured Replies

I seem to be having some brake fade when pushing the car very hard. Has anyone else experienced this problem and what did they do to reduce it?

I was reading about re-maps but this issue makes me wonder if the brakes will also need upgrading to cope with the extra power. For info my RS is completely standard.

Mike

Yup, we've (mostly) all been here....

if you are fading them out standard then you will only fade them more with more power...

Swap your pads and fluid, I fitted Ferodo DSC2500's and castrol super dot 4, not had fade since on road or track.

(flames, yes, fade, no... :D )

Thanks Ian,

I was hoping there would be an easier solution than replacing the brakes.

Mike.

Yeah, drive slower?

Swapping the pads is easy enough, you'll be replacing them (at some point) anyway. I tried to kill my standard pads before replacing but decided I'd probably kill myself before the pads!

You can do the pads easily enough yourself, I'd recommend getting the dealer to do the fluid tho as there are plenty of ABS chambers in the system.

We are meeting up this thurs night, come up if you can.

Ian,

Keeping my speed down is probably the best advice, as I am still on provisional full size bike entitlement for another 12 months.

Any points coming my way would see my entitlement revoked back to 125cc, which would be a real bummer! Hence the reasons for not re-mapping and of course the warranty issue.

Can't make week nights at present.. sorry..

Mike

As Ian says, pads and fluid. Cost under
