Seatbelt sign

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is a bit strange question...

I bought a second hand car.

I had on my dashboard a seatbelt sign which display the status of the rear seats (to see if the kids wear a seatbelts).

After visiting in authorized garage they upgrade my software and since than the rear seats seatbelt sign does not appear any more.

The person from the garage said I'm making it up, because there is nothing like this in this skoda.

I found a youtube short film which display the 3 rear seats seatbelt sign.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBBPwtRCVo4

How can I turn it back on?
Please advice.

I think your authorized garage has done something wrong and are trying to make you believe you are wrong.

My 2016 Fabia displays the 3 rear seats seatbelt sign so your Octavia should.

The big question is how to turn it back on?

Do you mean a Skoda Main Dealer when you say 'a authorized garage'  and what software were they updating and why?

Who at the garage says you are making it up, someone on a service desk / reception or the Qualified Technician that did the Software Update?

I some times see the picture and some times don't. You can see it when turning on the engine, later it goes away I think and you see the trip kilometers or miles.

Put something heavy on a seat and do not fasten a seat belt, if there is a visual and audible warning the system is worth having, if all you get is a little picture of a seat at the turning on of the ignition then you know you need to be sure passengers put on seat belts, especially children.

It is only a 5 seater not a 54 seater after all.

There are no weight sensors in rear seats. The indicator on the screen is simply connected to switches in the seat belt buckles.

The indicators only show up for about 30 seconds after you drive off before being replaced by the trip reading.

I disagree about no sensors in the front seats. If a passenger/driver is sitting in the front seats and does not fasten the belt - then an alarm goes off. Rarely have rear seat passengers- so no comment on that.

Actually the only weight sensor should be in the front passenger seat. There is no point in trying to detect if the driver's seat is occupied - if the car is moving, it is reasonable to assume that the driver is present. Rear seats don't have any weight sensors as well.

Driver's seat - only the belt buckle sensor. Detects if the belt is unfastened, turns on the warning light and sounds the alarm if the car starts moving without the driver's belt fastened.

Front passenger seat - weight sensor and belt buckle sensor. If the weight sensor doesn't detect anything, nothing happens. If weight is detected on the seat, works just like the driver's seat system.

Back seats - belt buckle sensors only, no weight sensors. After turning on the ignition, shows an image of three back seats and, depending on the buckle sensors, shows them with fastened seatbelts or not. If someone unfastens their seatbelt while the car is moving, an alarm sounds and the same image is shown on the Maxidot. If nobody fastens their belt, the car doesn't have any idea that something is wrong.

It is a very handy bit of info, I use my car for private hire so always check if my rear seat passengers have fastened their seatbelt after sitting in my car. The display is automatically shown on the dash when you start the car and whenever anyone connects or disconnects a rear seatbelt.
