drop links

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, where's the best place to get a pair of drop links for my octavia 2012 blackline vrs...I've decide to try and sort out the knocking noise from the front suspension..I'm guessing it's them so I'm going to start by changing them..cheers John.

Does anyone have a parts number thanks..

I have found this site

http://www.realoem.me/

which gives the original part numbers but OEM parts should be available form Euro Car Parts or GSF

ECP but go for the Lemforder droplinks. Meyle HD are better in my opinion if your local motor factors stock them or try eBay.

thanks for the replys fellas much appreciated.

Replaced mine from a local motor factors called southern exhaust supplies,I know you may not have one of these close to you but they supply suspension parts from a company called 'moog' and these came with a 2 year guarantee....3 years on an my drop links are still lovely and quiet.

Thought it was going to be easy but it wasn't  I had to call me dad to bail me out,had to grind the nuts of because the torque end bits had rusted.

But there's no more knocking noise now I've been tortured by it for about 2 years it went from one wheel to the other when I got the tyres changed. The knocking started when I only had 17000 miles on the clock..need to get me dad for some beers.

Used Lemforders from ECP on 2 separate Octys now, no problems or issues at all with them (other than having to use an angle grinder to cut the old ones off!).

Strongly suggest replacing the bonded wishbone rear bushes at the same time, and then get a four wheel Hunter alignment done. These can be done without removing struts, but if you want to go down the struts off route then always replace the top mounts and bushes as well. Mine were shot and came out in bits at about 57k miles.

You'l be amazed to realise just how noisy things were before replacing - I had no idea until the new bits were in and all the noises had gone.

To do the rear wishbone bushes do you have to remove the whole wishbone?

Tip of the week...let your local garage check for any faults before replacing parts..he couldn't find a thing up with the suspension or anything..he sprayed all the parts in grease and it hasn't made a sound since..made up..

Grease doesn't cure knocking, it will come most likely come back.

There's not much more I can do really, skoda have looked at it and my local garage and none of them could find anything wrong...

If you knew which parts had been greased you'd most likely be able to determine the worn item.

Actually I'm a bit confused as on the 05/04/17 you said that you had replaced the front droplinks with your dad's help and they knocking was gone

Keeping an eye on this one, as I've had to change mine twice. Not difficult or too expensive, but it always happens at MOT time and the ones I got locally seem to last two years at most. Not down to driving style, as i'm possibly slower now than when the car was newer, and the humps are as they were- put in by idiots who listem to the mothers union ,and not telling mum that the green cross code works better /education rather than trying to force drivers to slow down. But I'm lucky- I live in a council estate, where the chance of invasion by tanks is small compared to where our MP lives, where there are some humps on through roads, but none on the side roads. But the chance of finding a wing mirror knocked/off by a kid with a football is higher.

If you've been buying cheap ones then that could be the reason they're not lasting. I've done that before but didn't even get a year out of them. Not difficult to change but still a drain on time I'd rather not have. As above Lemforder and Meyle HD are good quality and even though more expensive saves you having to repeat the job.

Lowered suspension but extra stress on them but I don't think this is your case. Speed humps are the devils work as you've already stated. I try to get one wheel fully on them rather than skirt the edges, mainly to reduce tyre wear but not doubt helps the suspension by moving in a more linear path rather than at an obtuse angle

The drop links were the most expensive ones, and the noise stopped for a couple of days, but started making the noise again..so took it to the garage and he said everything was fine,so he sprayed a bit of grease on I don't no what and it's been fine ever since..
