Gen 2 steering on Gen 1Yeti

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am new to the yeti after owning several vag cars. I have a 2011 yeti, and wanted to find out if its possible to do a steering wheel swap and get the gen2 steering?

What do you mean by gen2 steering ?

Use Google search, there was a post a while ago about fitting a "paddle shift" sw. Is this what you want?

Not a paddle shift. What I mean is completely replacing the steering wheel with that of the newer yeti model, the current model. I have the first generation model, and what I want to do is replace the steering wheel

If you mean the MFSW (multifunction steering wheel" it was an option on some models and standard on others. I imagine it would be possible but would probably require some recoding via VCDS.

Thanks Fred.

Has anyone successfully done it? I would be interested to try, I do have Vcds at home

Yes, you should be able to fit a steering wheel from a MK1 FL to a MK1 pre-FL Yeti. Just be warned other cars use similar looking wheels but not all MFSW buttons are compatible. You need the buttons from a MK1 Yeti or MK2 FL Superb. You'll also need a new airbag.

These should be fine:

If you don't want MFSW buttons, it's much easier.

I've done a similar switch on my MK2 FL Octavia.

Can't recall any real difference btween my 2010 elegance steering wheel and the one in my current facelift 2014 elegance?

Exactly.

The top is what I have, the bottom is what I want to have :)

Why would you want to lose a spoke?

It's down to personal preference.

Personally, I find the newer style looks and feels better. Plus you no longer need to choose between phone/source buttons or mute/PTT as it has two extra buttons.

It's a great update if your current wheel is showing its age or to finish updating to new style badges.

Simply because my current wheel does not have the steering controls. Plus the new wheel looks sliiiiick
