Leaned on my armrest in between the front seats .....and found out it slides backwards and forwards...

I can agree with that.....

Leaned round to get something from the rear seats. Put my weight on the rest, and forward it shot...

On another note, found there is a cold vent under the arm rest as well. I thought only the glove box had it.

Can this car have any more toys?

you know the armrest has two positions, too - it locks up at about a 15 degree angle. very comfy!

Armrest can be locked in a selection of positions..depending on where the ratchet is clicked to.

On a more general note....I find reading the handbook always helpful when new products/toys/gadgets are obtained:rolleyes:

After four months I am still ploughing my way through the 200 odd pages of the handbook but these toys keep catching me out before I get to the bit in the book about it.

Still trying to find out what ASR is... trouble is there are so many flavours of traction control etc. etc in the hand book and no mention yet of ASR ....page 175 176....I know the button turns it off and at the moment it is on and doing its job nearly all the time (slippery roads and AMD:D ) but thats about it for now

Found it and I'll post it below.......strange there is very little info in the owners manual ....depemds on the car and trim level but my 1.9tdi pd classic has ABS EDL ASR and MSR

Technical glossary

ABS:

the anti-lock braking system prevents

the wheels from locking during heavy or

emergency braking, enabling the vehicle to

remain steerable. When braking, wheel

speed sensors measure the road wheel

speed and should one or more wheels start

to lock the system reduces brake pressure

to that wheel.

MSR:

the engine torque control system

recognises when the wheels are subject to

too much slippage and regulates the power

supply by intervening in the engine

management system. This prevents

wheelspin when, for example, changing

down on a smooth or wet road surface.

MSR is a constituent part of the

ASR system.

EDL:

the electronic differential lock

continually compares the rpm of the drive

wheels, and if it identifies a difference

between them which could lead to an

individual wheel spinning, for example if the

two wheels are on different types of surface

or accelerating on wet leaves, the system

brakes the wheel affected until uniform rpm

of all drive wheels is restored.

MBA:

the mechanical brake assist

system increases brake effort under

emergency braking conditions through a

dual rate servo.

ASR:

Anti-Slip Regulation traction control

ensures the Superb’s stability when pulling

away or accelerating. If the engine power or

torque being transmitted to the drive wheels

is too great, for example on a slippery road

surface, engine torque is automatically

reduced until optimum road-holding

returns, thus preventing wheelspin. A light

indicates whether the ASR system is on. It

can be manually switched off.

Xenon lamps:

the Xenon lamps

produce about 2.5 times the light of

standard Halogen lamps with 35% less

energy consumption.

ESP:

Electronic Stability Programme is

designed to stabilise the dynamic handling

response of the vehicle by counteracting

any tendency towards oversteer or

understeer. The ESP constantly compares

the actual movement of the vehicle with

predetermined values and according to

the situation ESP reacts by braking each

wheel individually (according to direction

of slip) and automatically adjusting the

engine’s output.

CAN Bus:

the CAN Bus is an electronic data

bus which links the various different

electronic control systems in the car. It

ensures ideal co-ordination between

systems and reduces the amount of wiring

needed in the car.

Fuel cut-out:

should one or more of the

airbags inflate after an accident, this system

automatically cuts out the fuel supply,

thus preventing subsequent leakage of the

diesel or petrol.

Trip Computer:

the trip computer not only

features an impressive range of data

displays, operating it is simplicity itself.

A multifunction touch key enables you to

call up all relevant data on the easy-to-read

temperature, time, current fuel

My 'latest find' is the slot under the steering wheel which is a compartment for the owners manual/leather folder.I used to keep this in the glovebox before and did not realise its home was under the steering wheel until I was given a courtesy car and saw the folder in there.

That moving centre armrest is ace!!! I actually ran outside yesterday when I read about it. I really am turning into the anorak my wife already thinks I am!

I found the slot for the manual but it's too narrow for the leather pouch, not to worry, my handy map and a couple of other things went in there.

What are the two blank buttons on the left of the centre console used for. I have the elegance but they are still blank. I wasn't sure if it was a left hand drive thing.

Has anyone found anything to go in them, blanks drive me mad.

One is for the warning light if you have the option for being able to de-activate the fromt passenger air bag. Dont know what other is but you may be right about same panel being used for both LH and RH drive cars.

I had one blanking switch in my Bora as I didn't have ESP, bought the switch in the dealer and wired it up in the end and it looked spot on.

As soon as I got the Superb I did the same, I will be buying the 4 heated seat switches over time as they are

Only problem is, it won't fit in there if everything is in the folder. As a result, mine has ended up in the pocket behind the driver's seat.

Have you found the tiny little cubby hole below the armrest on the front of that storage compartment? Can't fit much in there mind!

Yes I found the little cubby hole under the armrest, it usually has 20p pieces for the car park in there. I have to get some switches in those blanking holes and the kids want cat eye in the back. Any suggestions on that one?

Cat Eye in the back is not a problem, you could wire up some red LED's into the rear courtesy lamps but the whole idea with Cat Eye is that it's for the driver and not the people sat in the back, LOL!!

Would be interesting to see whether you can fit them into the back but it would be difficult to get a wire up to those lamps from the sidelight function feed elsewhere in the car, dropping the headlining is not a nice job!!

No its not a switch its a light. The switch is in the glovebox. If all you want is a pretend switch just get another one for the heated rear windscreen - if anybody asks you tell them you have dual heating on it :D

Hi If u didn't know it slides, I wondered whether u know that it tilts and latches so can be used as an armrest while driving ??

haha i did that with my fabia i have a esp and asr switch, aswell as two window heated switches:) filled the blanks up!
