Yep the ciggie lighters are on all the time even on the mk2 just take a live feed of the aircon maybe vrstu could give you some pics when he installs his:thumbup: .

Oddly enough - yes!!

Installed mine on Sunday, ran a power cable directly from the fuse box, accross the top of the dash pod and out of the small sensor on top of the dash.

sounds neat! any photos - in particular the fuse box wiring? can i ask when taking power from the fusebox is any soldering involved at all or do the wires just clip on or similar?

Look in the fuse box and there is a spare fuse with a switched live marked for the phone. You'll ideally need to remove the fusebox but that's only two screws, release a small latch inside and slide the whole 'purple' bit down slightly to allow you to enter the new wire. (Use the yellow repair wires with termination fitted)
