TALEX Speed Detector

Featured Replies

VRStu helped install my Talex GPS speed detector into my Octy this weekend and sugested I post some piccy's as I think he's done a pretty good job. The Talex unit looks pretty good, almost as if it came with the car. A little awkward to fit but by removing the stereo head unit and the top vents the cable was fed down through the gap where the window sensor is followed by a relatively simple wiring and its job done!. Took about two hours total to do.

  • One would hope that the big RED light would alert you to these :P (and if it's your normal practice to ignore them unless there's a camera there then :thumbdwn: :nono: )

Good bit of kit ....... had mine for about 3 months:thumbup:

Been looking at them Steve, think I'll have to get one. £135 deliverd is the best I've seen so far.

Got one the other day off "fleabay."

I've hardwired it into my Golf so that it now comes on and off with the ignition.

It is, as has already been said, a really fabulous piece of kit and tremendous value for money.

I have been testing it over the last couple of days and so far it has found every camera site and mobile site that I know of around this area & it even found one that I didn't know about !!

I find it most user friendly on the "cam" mode as when it's in "normal mode" the "burds" voice on it doesn't half keep nagging you to slow down when approaching mobile camera sites compared to just two "slow down" warnings in "cam mode" as you approach mobile camera sites. :)

All in all it's a fantastic licence saving little piece of equipment and should be a "must have" after any remap ! :D

I might get another for the wife's Fabia but I'll leave this one on "normal mode" so that she finds out what nagging really feels like !:rofl:

How do you do the upates?

Do you have to unlug the whole unit and take indoors?

What about power for it during update?

How do you do the upates?

Via the internet.

Yes, it's no big drama though just unplug it at the unit and carry it indoors. :D

What about power for it during update?

Powered via usb lead which comes with the subscription.:)

Nice spot Steve - Bought the last two!!

Any one want a secondhand Road Angel or Snooper S3 :D

I've just completed a 750 mile journey and the Talex is a Godsend. Red light cameras, Specs, Average speed cameras, accident blackspots, Gatsos, portable camera locations, Superb.

Looks good when fitted in this way too... Well done

This guy - autostylusuk has got 9 full version Talex's in for

Wonder why they are coming in so cheap?

I will find out if a painted fag packet with a battery inside and an led on top turns up

Every now and again you just drop on a good deal on fleabay, hopefully this is one of those times

My Talex arrived from Fleabay today, very impressed, full version with full subscription, serial cable, serial number etc etc.

Got mine today also, had to dig the old PC out for a serial connection, updates just fine, 3mb update installed. Great buy.

UH - now

I'd be interested, looks a nice bit of kit, but can't afford it right now. Did spot this one on eBay though, looks a good buy?

Would be interested in seeing some step-by-step instructions, especially for the hardwiring bit, for future reference :)

Steve

FYI on the 24 hour clock thing as taken from talex.co.uk:

24hr Clock feature added to Talex family 23/01/2006

In our continued efforts to improve customer satisfaction and product functionality Talex and TalexLite now feature an optional 24hr clock display:

Talex units that have been updated after the 21st January 2006 will support the option of displaying the current time using a 24hr format.

To enable this feature switch the Talex unit on in either the ‘normal’ or ‘cam’ mode and hold the ‘USER’ button down for 2 or more seconds. The unit will chime to indicate that the clock display has changed mode. The unit will remember its current mode when the power is removed.

By repeating this process it is possible to toggle between a 12hr or 24hr display.

Steve

That one on Flea-Bay is the Talex LITE, and is not such a good buy, as it is a lot cheaper to buy new than the normal Talex.

The lite looks like a good deal but if you take into consideration you get 6 months subscription for free with the non-lite version, plus a bunch of features extra (which you may never use, true ;)) it's not really a lot better.

Just ordered one plus a mount for it, apparently it should fit nicely above the rearview mirror :)

Be careful with fitting it above the rear view mirror, as it needs a clear view of the sky to lock onto the satellites.

Apparently that's the position recommended for cars that have a heated windscreen or shielded generally, so it ought to work. If not I suppose I'll end up flogging that mount thing again :(

Where did you find the mount. Ta

I will go take some pix of it in a bit, fits onto the dash nicely.

I have hardwired it using an inline fuse taking a feed off the asr button (ignition switched live).

went to liverpool to the stealers today, and it picked up everything, I am really impressed. I was even impressed with what I was offered for my furby against and octy 2 vrs.

Sat in a blue one that was "Sold", sold to someone on Briskoda apparently :D

Cheers
