Oil cap warning !!

Featured Replies

A while back, I mentioned my VRS 230 was revving by it's own. Anyway, it started again today(Fortunately just as I was arriving home), and the ECS light came on. I parked on the drive, and could smell burning, so I upped the bonnet, and the engine bay was covered in oil. Arghhh, I thought, my baby is dead. I called Skoda assist, and they arrived in about 40 minutes. The mechanic spotted straight away that the oil filler cap had blown off !!! Apparently, this is a very common fault on VAG, and it is easy to think you have put the cap on properly, but you have to turn it until it 'clicks' into place. It would appear mine had been loose since new !

Fortunately, I'd only lost a small amout of oil, so he topped it up, and replaced the oil cap. I was lucky, check yours the next time you're out !

You have to turn it until it clicks, you can see it operates this way. Oil is cheap, but hopefully you get your engine cleaned from it.

Mmmmmm.........this is interesting, some times whilst stood in traffic or creeping along in traffic my 230 seems to rev to 2 / 2.5 K revs . I though perhaps I was just touching the throttle or possibly just depressing the cluth very slightly

You've got me thinking now.

My 230 is at the dealers, they are trying to find out what the grating sound is while pulling away, they have had it since Tuesday..............

I'll keep you informed with the out come. They have been told I don't want it back until they find the cause and fix it

Toni8b, that's what the Doctor said...Auric, that sounds the same problem as mine...This was a few weeks ago....You may have to turn your volume up.
