Vibration but not wobble above 80mph

Featured Replies

Hi all.  Have got a issue now with my car.

I am getting a vibration but not steering wheel wobble through my steering when i go above 80mph on road legal motorways etc.  I can feel vibration through the steering wheel when the car gets around and above 80 mph,  i have not gone above 90 to see if it goes away yet.

Its a fabua vrs on a 2004

I have just had new outer track rod ends fitted and inner tie rods both sides due to the right hand outer track rod end causing severe movement.

I have then had the car tracked on 4  wheel tracking system and the steering wheel when i drive it since tracking steers and points fine.

Could it be wheel balancing?

I doubt it would be bottom ball joints as you would get movement all the time?

Console bushes where changed and look ok.

Any ideas?  Think wheel balancing?

Probably wheel balance, they may have lost a weight when removing and refitting the wheels.

I presume you live on the Isles of Man or travel to Germany regularly to do those speeds.;)  Anyway, as above, go to a tyre place and get all wheels checked for balance, check tyre pressures at same time. If you had movement in bushes and ball joints, it would (and should) have been noticed when alignment was done.

Sometimes a tyre develops a bulge which can cause this. All in balance but the tyre is no longer round. Quite dangerous if this is the case as it could deflate suddenly.

Jim, please, this forum is attempting to migrate from the drooling kindergarten it previously inhabited, you can even use mild swear words these days. Speeding is not encouraged but it is a matter of individual responsibility and the law views it in the same way.

If it wobbles at 80 disappears and returns at 160 mph it's need the wheels balancing.
