How tough is the Furby?

Featured Replies

Got a little shunt in the rear on the way to work today. Scratched bumper, but no other visible signs of damage. Had a few bodyshop people look at it and they all say no creasing of the boot floor and everything there looks in shape.

Felt a little harsh, but I've not been in anything before so may just have been me; Other party lost a headlight and had a twisted bumper. Just seems very little damage to the Furby considering.

Is there much chance it did any real damage that isn't visible? Or most likely just the bumper?

The furbie is extremely solid.

I got rear ended by a A4 estate and pushed into a 320 BMW.

They both came off worse.

Mine had rear bumper damage and front scraping.

When it went in for repair, the said it was lucky it didn't crease the floorplan as their gig has trouble pulling the fabia as it is so strong.

He also said it is probably one of the strongest cars he has ever seen for its size

Surely being really really strong is a bad thing in an accident?

As long as there are crumple zones (which there are) to disperse energy there's nothing wrong with a bit of stiffness to reduce low speed accident damage.

The Polo is an exceedingly tough car (saw the remains of one that had driven through an old Merc estate) and there's no reason the Furby shouldn't be

Glad your OK Mort, watch your neck for the next few days.

They won't know the extent of the damage until the plastic bumper has been removed, the actual bumper bar sits behind this. It is substantial though.

I know the A and B pillars are damn tough - I've thoroughly tested those. ;) And when the B pillar is pushed down with the weight of a swingshovel bucket (and more) it lifted the front of the swingshovel in the air.  I ended up folding them over instead. :)

As for crumple zones - I've never tested those. :D

I smashed into a wall in mine (side on), damaged the sill but the chassis survived. A mechanic friend of mine said that if i had been in a less solid car then the floorplan could have got mangled

Different case with me. First accident I had with my Fabia, I ran into a 1992 Toyota Cressida from behind...this was the first year, so had to have the bonnet, bumper, spoiler kit, grilles and headlights replaced...the Cressida came out with ABSOLUTELY no damage whatsoever.

Guess I must have hit him pretty hard for that to happen eh ?:o

A Primera Estate hit me in the back in an earlier 12v - Reinforcing bars saved mine as well. Only thing was I had whiplash for a while.

Can't praise these cars enough. And Fabia 12v hope you're getting another if the car is a write off.

Cheers. I've got a headache but, touch wood, not much stiffness yet,

They've said that they would prefer to sort it out without the insurance company. If it's just the bumper I'm not too bothered, as it's gonna just be a respray job really. But if anything else has been affected I'd rather not risk it.

Would it be worth taking off the bumper and looking? or would I need someone in the know to take a look?
