2011 Superb TSi 1.8 4x4 - advice?

Featured Replies

Always fancied the 4x4 Superb or Octavia and a local dealer currently has one (Superb TSI) with ~53K miles.

Any advice or gotchas to look out for on this model, age and mileage?

All input appreciated - especially if it prevents a (-nother) bad used car purchase, which could end in divorce...

Thanks.

Search forum - there is plenty of info.

Look for production day of the engine, sticker on top cover of the timing chain. All engines produced before June/2011, engine number CDA_ 221246, are prone to burn oil. Definitely should be solved from October/2011 from engine number CDA_ 264264 but in case of very heavy handling on LL service can happen the same ... All engines produced in between are in question too, all about design of pistons/rings. If new pistons+conrods are claimed as fitted in problematic engine, ask for a receipt or anything else it can confirm that the service was done.

Besides of that, look for info about tensioner, trouble free tensioner 06K109467K fitted from May/2012, engine number CDA_307430. But, as always, modified trouble free chains 06K109158AA or latest 06K109158AD appeared first on winter 2013/spring 2014.

Yet to be precise, oil issue only affects second stage of all EA888 which replaced first stage in about autumn 2008.

First stage engines have engine code begining with B (BZB as example), only one oil presure sensor on engine oil filter holder.

Second stage begins with C (CDAA for 1.8, CCZA for 2.0 as example), two oil presure sensors on engine oil filter holder.

Quick look under bonnet at oil filter holder will say which generation you got when you can´t check the engine code.

Issue with timing chain and tensioner is common to both stages.

I had a 1.8 turbo petrol  4x4 octavia estate back in 2005, it did 25 mpg if you drove like a vicar , no power under 3000 rpm
