Bent frame?

Featured Replies

My bonnet sorta sticks up a bit on the right side. But the bonnet itself is straight. So I am wondering if it is the frame that's bent (the forward right panel looks fine, but somehow fits "loose" and has a cm or two clearance from the door and bonnet). So how would I go on about troubleshooting and eventually straightening the frame? I can't really mount the new grille or a new front bumper without straightening it.

Some background: I did wind up in a ditch some months ago and hit my front right side.

Thanks in advance.

I think you may be correct; the panel gaps on mine are still even, despite a trip down a drainage ditch. Even immediately after that, the bonnet shuts were even both sides and around the headlights.

Find a similar model and take measurements across fixed reference points on the actual chassis itself, such as the strut tops, captive bolt holes for coolant bottle etc - very important they are fixed, as they should be constant across vehicles, this will give you a reference to work against (there will be an allowable tolerance that the manufacturer allows, you may even be able to get this data from an accident repair specialist as well)

My panel gaps are uneven. Left side is normal, nice and tight, while right side has an increased gap. The bonnet closes properly. My right headlight did get the plastic smashed (the one around the headlight itself) and the indicator smashed.

By strut tops, you mean to measure where the suspension is? Is there possibly to find these measurements online, so I don't have to measure on someone else's car?

I will see to get some pictures tomorrow (now it's cloudy and somewhat dark).

If it is several months since the trip into the ditch and you are just aware now of the damage caused you had best go visit a professional to examine the car and alignment and damage if it is from the accident.

I was aware of the damage since the accident, I just didn't do much about it except get my wheels aligned. Car goes just fine, only real "problem" is if I let go of the steering wheel, it will after a short while go towards the right. And it only bothers me because the bonnet doesn't align perfectly.

Thanks for the official dimensions, that'll come in handy! :D

Also, I included some pictures, you can see how the left side aligns compared to how the right side aligns.

@MujoBijeli That looks like your RHF wing has shifted right, based on how the panel gap isn't constant width any more.

So in other words, if I change the RHF wing, it'll be okay again (granted if I switch out the bumper as well, since as you can see it is bent a bit too)?

@MujoBijeli Maybe. I don't know if the outer wing is bent or if the inner wing is too, which is where @nige8021 chassis alignment diagrams come in.
