Tinting of front windows

Featured Replies

I know this has been discussed many times , but I thought it was worth saying. I had all my side windows tinted in what i thought was a legal tint but on Saturday I was stopped by a motorbike police unit.

He had with him a piece of kit called tintman. They test your windows by sticking two sensors one either side of the glass and measure the light let through.

The results are

Getting my fronts lightly done in the very near future. - I'm going to ensure its legal with the tinter before he does it. :)

Is your car going to be retested to check that it is legal?

So did you get points on your license for that?

Its called safety for you and other road users.

Its about time the Police started to pull cars for illegally blackened front windows.

As I understood it, the standard green tint in the glass was on or about the legal light transmission level anyway.

I think it's important to be able to see people, so you can tell whether they are looking at you, etc. I know that there are many junctions I drive through where I have had to slam on the anchors because I could see people were about to make a turn across my right of way and had not noticed me coming, etc.

I may be wrong but I didn't think you were allowed darkened windows in front of the B-pillar now?

You are allowed them but the grade is so light its almost not worth having.
