Stage 1 vrs 2nd gear reving. Clutch?

Recommended Posts

Had my Octavia tfsi remapped a week. Had a Dv problem and a miss fire within days of the remap. Anyway there sorted now so onto my next problem. When going round a round about in 2nd Aprox 30mph then accelerating hard down a slip road it red lined nearly instantly then changed to 3rd and same happened again. Is this signs of a slipping clutch or is it just my bad driving and I should have been in 3rd comming out of the roundabout? To alow for more revs to be available? It doesn't do it when accelerating hard in 2nd from slower speeds?

You didn't say if you have DSG or Manual, but with both gearboxes it sounds like clutch slip, if you have a manual gearbox then a clutch change is about a days work for a good indy garage, if DSG then you may need a specialist which will make costs £'s (I am a vehicle tech/MOT tester but have never worked on the DSG box, so don't know much about them.)

Again if you have a manual it may be better to put a heavier duty clutch in as the power from the remap will put more strain through it, so will increase wear.

Is it manual?

The 4th gear trick should show if the clutch is having trouble. 30mph in 4th gear and put your foot hard on the accelerator. It will accelerate or slip!

Better in 6th or 1st or 2nd to be honest, 4th is normally direct drive or 1:1 ratio, clutch's slip easier in 1st or 2nd when trying to accelerate as these are low ratio's. i normally check clutch's but putting hand brake on, put car in 5th or 6th, give a little bit of revs and raise clutch, if the vehicle stall's clutch is fine if it don't clutch is knackered

I'm not convinced an uprated clutch is needed for a stage 1 map. The oem clutch should be more than enough. The o.p.'s clutch was obviously just about done pre remap and the extra power has broken it. What mileage has the car done?
