Dashboard creaks...fuse box cover

Featured Replies

Old thread I know, but the main persistent creak that has irritated me is one caused by the fuse box cover rubbing on the door trim panel. I have a new cover on order (come from the Czech. Rep.) cost is only a few pounds. Looking forward to some peace!!:)

Won't the new one have the same problem? Or has it been redesigned?

When I removed the old one I realised that it had been fitted in such a way that the tab on the back edge had missed engaging with a locating hole on the dash chassis. It had consequently bent back and was forcing the cover to stand off more than usuall, thus rubbing on the door panel.

Did the new part solve the issue?

I'd forgotten about this, I sold the car 18 months or so ago. But to answer your question, yes it did indeed solve the problem. Part was about

I've ordered the part. I hope its the correct one, around

Hi guys - just going through the same issue. Although it's the passenger side end cap that is making the annoying noise. I removed the end cap and also found that the part appeared to have been fitted incorrectly and one plastic locator was broken.

I have ordered a replacement (

Did you tighten any of the screws inside?

Yeah - one on the side and another one further in the dash holding the main bracket to the bulkhead. If i'm honest - looking at the alignment of the dash as a whole - i have more space on the drivers side at the fusebox compared with that on passenger side - basically - the whole dash looks slightly offset to passenger side.

My part should arrive tomorrow, so I'll probably have a go at it on Saturday.

I have a similar noise from the passenger side dash... also thinking it may be the cover I have since removed it. Thinking that may resolve

This has made no difference.

I actually think the top of the dash is rubbing on the A pillar and sounds like polystyrene rubbing together.

my noise is more of a plastic tap, tap, tap. But not all of the time. The noise goes when the cover is removed. It worth

Mine is more the polystyrene noise suggested. It went with the cover removed - but gradually returned after driving with out the cover for a few miles. Not so good. New part has not arrived - but in the interim i loosed a couple of the screws - wiggled the dash around to try and free it from the rubbing noise and then retightened the screws in that area. End cover now replaced and noise is pretty much gone. Still slightly audible on only the roughest surface or cobbled streets but lost in noise when the radio is on. Sorry - not the most precise solution in the world. Still aiming to fit new end cover when it arrives and see what happens. Let us know how you get on.

It would be good to spray Silicone Lube in spots suspected to make friction. Should help a lot.

I have tried the silcone spray, but as the temperature changes inside the cabin it eventually returns....

I trip the the dealer - I actually think it is to do with the amount of flex with the Dash?

Yes, silicone failed on me trying to solve rubber door seals creaking. Then I've used parafine spray. Used it only once, two months ago, and creaking has never returned again. Worth to try, but don't spray directly. Spray it on little piece of sponge and apply on creaking spots.

Part is out of stock! Should take a few more days.

Any update on this guys? My replacement parts still haven't arrived with the dealer either - 2 weeks of waiting thus far...

I took my car in on Wednesday and it creaked all the way to the dealer.

Picked up the car later on in the day (no fault found)

Obviously annoyed, the bloody thing hasn't creaked since....???..??

It has got to go back in 2 weeks for a new Aerial, so will take the technician out and hope it will creak
