Drivegreen/Greenscore question

That is what I thought, but now I'm not sure. I'm going to do 2 sessions of the same route, 1 in normal mode and the other in eco and post the results later.

On my ridiculously short commute, I get between 12 and 15% better mpg using eco than I do with normal mode. Nothing scientific, just using the mpgomonitor.

I have been keeping track of my MPG since I got the car in July 2020.

I've only had the use of ECO option since Dec 2023 due to the driving mode button/software being inoperative before then ( stuck in Normal with no coasting option ). Since then I've driven exclusively in ECO and have used the coasting feature at every opportunity.

Daily commute is 50 miles each way, mostly motorway with weekend travel of 60 miles per day, again mostly motorway.

Checking my MPG for the last 4 years between Jan - July I can report the following:

Jan - Jul 2021 - Normal - 58.6mpg

Jan - Jul 2022 - Normal - 57.7mpg

Jan - Jul 2023 - Normal - 59.3mpg

Jan - Jul 2024 - ECO -  58.7mpg

So, in conclusion, it doesn't seem to make much/if any difference at all even though up until today I thought it must.

I’m not surprised it’d make much difference on a that type of drive, as the engine / gearbox are at optimal everything for a long period. I’d regularly get 60+ on the old MKI with a 110 mile round trip on 95% motorway.

Ok, I have done a few trials now, and I'm beginning to wonder if it is more related to how the engine is burning the fuel, i.e., is it being cleaner or not? Given that the TDI has some of its best boost at around 1,500 RPM, you can see from the following photos, all trips were driven with ECO mode programmed in the individual setting, the first 2 were on the same route, different days, but same time and the average speed almost the same. IIRC the fist had more coasting down hill, but the second had more traffic so was more erratic in speed.

Don't think I've ever had less than 85 on my 1.5 TSI and I'm sure it went down to 31 mpg sat in traffic haven't been on a long run yet to test it fully.

I've been granted a 97 score 2 weeks ago 😃, with a brillant average consumption of... 12.6 l/100km 🙄🙃! Over 5km, I to say...

I don't pay attention to the score anymore...

Good result, I've just back after driving 254 miles to Fairford and back on a full tank, with according to the trip computer, 640 miles range left, green score of 84 and 61.9 mpg. That was including 50 minutes of stop start traffic on M25 due to 3 lanes being resurfaced at 10.30pm following an accident which I saw on my out this morning at 5.30am,phew.
