For people who have already gotten their New Octavia vRS or have looked into the insurance for it, what kind of increases are you finding.

Irish companies are really backward at getting the car on their systems, I got a quote 963 (yahoo, great) BUT ! for some reason they had it grouped as a 2.0 Elegance Fabia, when I rang them they tried to say the grouping was the same as the Fabia RS Turbo Petrol, she got very very cranky when I told her it was a diesel and her system was wrong. She eventually put her Supervisor on who tried to explain the groupings system to me, I told her that a doubt 130Bhp diesel and a 200Bhp Petrol were really in the same grouping. I then told her that the car had same engine as the Golf GTi, a quote on this was 1300 Euro. Jaysus they are muppets !

The only thing about comparing it to the GTi is that its 2 groupings lower on the ABI website and I'm afraid they will just group it as a GTi and thats it.

From the ABI site it looks like the New Octy vRS has a lower Grouping than the Mk1 vRS, the 180 Bhp Mk4 Golf GTi and the New Mk5 Golf GTi.

Get this, they want to charge me 1400 Euro on the Octy even though the other day a New Golf GTI was 1300, wtf. How do you talk to these people In fairness the girl I spoke to on the phone was very nice and seen my point, its now going back to the underwritters again.

I was quoted an extra €70 for the remainder of the year (approx. 6 months remaining on existing policy). This would roughly represent a 23% increase in premium. Having said that, it is still the cheapest car I have ever insured - €1000 for a 306 DTurbo???, €850 odd for an Alfa 156, and €1,500 for an MX-5. €620 for me & girlfriend fully comp and with bonus protection.

Shop around - My quotes on the Octy ranged between €2,300 to €620 for the same level of cover.
