Oh, hang on - those spikes are to stop the pedestrian bouncing off and injuring themselves on the road / scenery. A brilliant new safety feature.

Either they aren't a problem in a city accident or it would have affected the ncap rating, or the spikes are irrelevant because the engine is going to kill you after the spikes have damaged your leg.

 

So we are back to why are these spikes a problem?  Is it for an accident greater than 64km/h but less than 100km/h?

 

Better remove the engine then!
