whistling turbo

Featured Replies

seems my turbo on fab vrs is whistling at me and i seen to notice it more in the morning, not all the time though, what does this mean, its under warranty and currently undergoing work anyway.

have seen it mentioned a few times here i`m sure

never mind just done a search and seems to be the normal thing oh well

It's meant to whistle :)

Yeah :iagree:, it sounds bloody cool too!

I love my turbo whistle, and the lift off chatter too. If its not too cold out I usually drive with a 1cm gap in the windows just to hear better. :o

I didn't have my window open on my way to work this morning becuase I was hot... ;)

I've found that if you lower BOTH windows by 1cm, you hear the whistle in stereo. ;)

Hence, why I pluralised and said windows. :D :P

As the turbo is in the centre of the engine bay, definitely need both open to get the full effect. ;)

Forgot to add another good one - driving close to walls on both sides of the road (like houses butting on to the road) - The noise echoes off the walls and amplifies it.

Agreed! Drive down a street with terrace houses on either side and it sounds marvellous!

I like the turbo whistle - always seems louder on a cold morning.

Do you get more turbo whistle etc with an aftermarket exhaust like a Milltek?

I think I know what you're really on about - on cold mornings there's a whistle on idle (i.e. turbo off-boost) on mine, and I think a few other members have mentioned it. It goes away once the engine's warm, so I'm not that bothered about it TBH.

And, yes, I firkin' lurve the sound the turbo makes when it's boosting. Oh, yeah...:D

exhaust won't amplify turbo whistle, but it will give a nice background roar on top of the turbo whistle. :)

The only way to help with turbo noise is getting it pushing higher boost (or) fit a bigger turbo which will push higher boost, and changing air filter, etc will help with induction type noise to accompany it too.
