the green leaf eco thingy: what's max?

Featured Replies

What is the maximum for the green eco leaf thingy? 80? 100? Has anyone got in excess of 80 when driving normally?

Purely for interest's sake :)

I've had mid 90's when driving like a nun. I have given up caring about what fuel economy I'll get as everything I've tried hasn't made much difference.

Plus, I now cycle more than I drive so the days I do drive, I can be a little more adventurous lol.

I got 94 on my six mile journey into work this morning, mostly at less than 40 mph with some queuing. This was despite getting only 44 mpg. While I can often achieve more than 50 mpg I don't think I've ever had a green score of more than 95 at the end of a journey.

This.

Same for me totally. Manufacturers MPG is a crock of **** on these cars IMO

Most definitely is, but not just on these car's, I'd go as far and say on All car's!

I had a Chevy captiva before now and when running to Scotland on the motorway, I should have got in the region of 45 mpg. Never once did I get more than 34 mpg.

Back to the OP. I usually get an eco score of 93 to 99 driving circa 40 miles to shirk each day, but the mpg can vary dramatically. Anything between 45 and 65 mpg.

I once set off down a long hill and got the mpg up to 300 mpg, that soon decreased and by the time I finally got where I was going I'd averaged 63 mpg.

FYI I've got a 1.4 TSI so crap mpg anyway. Best I've got is 58.

Best I've had was my VW Bora with the pd130 (asz) which routinely gave me 74 and around 715 miles to the tank. Miss it!

The question was about the green score on the infotainment, not MPG.

Last evening after my walk, I drove 30+ miles in eco quite quickly as the roads were not congested with rush hour traffic, I got an eco score of 99

This morning driving in to work, not hanging around, I got 99 again with 51mpg average for the journey.

Don't drive like a nun or a Sunday driver and boost your score.

Got 100 green score today.B) Motorway from Derbyshire to Strensham Services on M5. 70mph max plus a lot of mandatory 50mph in roadworks and the "intelligent "M42. 60.5mpg indicated.

Impressed anyway. I usually get an indicated 51mpg ,50mpg true, on similar journeys. Back on M50 and A roads now and mpg dropping.

Only had the car 4 days and best I've got so far is 95 - 58mpg. Love the coasting feature in eco mode.

I do not have a green leaf eco thingy in my Octavia to confirm how it actually operates but if I were specifying it then I would measure consumption against average speed and/or encompass the amount and severity of braking and acceleration in a journey.

I'm intrigued to hear about the eco mode, as I don't have mode selection. I also haven't managed to get higher than 80, and my long term average is around 75 or so... interesting.

I don't have different modes either, but the modes make little or no actual difference if you have a manual transmission as they just modify the throttle response. Although I guess that could be useful in the snow?

The big thing with DSG and modes is that the Eco mode allows free-wheeling, similar to a manual driver disengaging the clutch.

That aspect can make a difference in certain driving conditions but not all drivers utilise it correctly, judging from there comments in this forum

Eco mode on the aircon should make a small difference to fuel consumption, but unfortunately I don't have that either.

Not sure about aircon operation being modified by 'eco' mode as I have not read anything to confirm that. Modern ones are much more efficient and intelligent than they ever used to be anyway.

If you have climate control aircon then setting to a sensible achievable temperature makes a marked difference.

Ordinary aircon, as fitted to my car, requires more thought about economical operation. You do have the ON/OFF button though.

From the May 2016 manual: In eco mode, "The air conditioning is controlled so as to save energy. For this reason, for example, it may take longer to reach the desired interior temperature in mode"

If you had selectable modes you'd see that the aircon ran in eco mode when you select the eco driving mode. Me, I think the choices are too much. Coming home from Wales I struggled to get 50 mpg whereas I was in the high 50s with a peak of 60.5mpg on the way there. The right foot makes a big difference. I was cruising steadily outwards and doing a lot more accelerating and decelerating in traffic homeward bound.

OK so after going through my first full tank I got an actual 49.4 mpg - computer showing 50 mpg since last refuel. Much more accurate than the mk1 Fabia VRS computer but not as economical.

Not bad considering its a bigger, heavier and slightly more powerful car.

On a DSG scout in eco mode, driving with a light foot and little braking get it to 100 easily.

I suspect keeping in highest possible gear has a large effect on it.

Cold start today , albeit in 19C, 86 score after 1/2 mile. Mostly downhill.

Went for a little play and set the ESC to sport mode. Good fun in the wet. :)

Managed to redeem the eco score and mpg slightly on the return leg.
