Tour de Yorkshire 2017

Featured Replies

With Le Tour Yorkshire 2017 just around the corner,  I thought it was time for some exposure.

Le Tour Yorkshire 2017 Website

STAGE 1: FRIDAY 28 APRIL 2017: BRIDLINGTON TO SCARBOROUGH

STAGE 2: SATURDAY 29 APRIL 2017: TADCASTER TO HARROGATE

STAGE 3: SUNDAY 30TH APRIL 2017: BRADFORD TO FOX VALLEY, SHEFFIELD

I have to admit to really liking the route planned (especially as it passes within 1/10th of a mile of my house :) )

I'll avoid going out on the 30th April then - unfortunately it looks like I've booked my holiday a week wrong - I'll be here...   ;-(

Do we have any idea about Tv coverage?

  • 2 months later...

Heads up, particularly since it's live on ITV4 28th, 29th and 30th April.

The route takes it past my house on Sunday so i'll be watching it from the back garden, hopefully with some good weather.

Bonus! Lots of local roads that had been a mess with potholes for years have suddenly been completely resurfaced.

Should be an interesting watch. One of the Women I work with is racing on the Saturday for Fusion RT Fierlan

Will be passing right by us.

Our friends live next to the bridge in Tadcaster so we're going down there for some drinkies and (hopefully) a BBQ.

I'm not massively into cycling but I think it's a great event and a lovely atmosphere.

Good job the Bridge in Taddie has been repaired, other wise it would have been call " Swim de Yorkshire "

Haha. Yes.

Although there was a temporary foot bridge... would have been funny watching them all try to squeeze through the ~1.5m wide bridge!

will be doing my best to avoid it   ;-)

Not to mention having to dismount to cross the bridge too :D .

@skomaz - Haven't seen the route yet.

The 2 topics have been merged

Looking forward to watching as much as i can of this on ITV4.

Planning my weekend as doing stuff like getting out on my bike early and late and goggle box inbetween, no disruptions hopefully,

and stuff the F1 or snooker this weekend.

Good practice for my annual holiday of watching the Tour de France from my settee.

I'm hoping to get out and ride the last 25miles of Stage 3 tomorrow with my son (we are 25miles from the end :) ), it will be good practice for our 1st cycling weekend away

Well the route passed our house today and glad to see a good turn to cheer the riders on. The caravan of police and team cars got everyone going ahead of the riders appearing. The road past us is slightly downhill but even still I was really surprised at the speed of them as they went by and within a few minutes they were gone

Well my colleague finished 60th in the women's race, approx 15 mins behind Lizzie Deignan. Considering Jen is semi pro in her 2nd season and the winner is a former world champion I think that is very respectable.

Each day had a huge amount of support from the public, it was great to see.

The last 25miles/40km is right on my doorstep & it is a relief to see how tough the pro riders found it as I still find them hills incredibly tough

I was proud to see so many out cheering them on. Watching it back on TV it was great to see so large crowds in Birstall too but very disappointing when it cut to a commercial break just as it was getting to where we stood.

How brilliant was that? Even counting the 1-day "Tour de Yorkshire Femmes" race I watched the whole thing, well except for the Russian F1 GP.

@RampantBadger - My personal congratulations to Jen.

I thought it was mildly amusing when they all crashed in sight of the finishing line...

However, why do they have to give all the hills stupid names by calling them Col de <insert good Yorkshire name here>?

or Cote de <insert good Yorkshire name here>

Makes it sound naff...

I understand its because the Yorkshire tours are mainly sponsored & paid for by the Tour De France organisation

@DarkPeakCycles @skomaz As you say, it's because the "Tour de Yorkshire" (should probably be "Tour du Yorkshire" anyway because a UK county is roughly analogous to a French departement and they are masculine, not feminine) is run by the Tour de France organisation (although that begs the question as to why the "Veulta a Espana" is in Spanish and not French)!

And, indeed, ignores the slightly unofficial "Col de Montrose Street" from the 2014 Commonwealth Games road races (tight 90 left straight onto the foot of a 1 in 6 climb).

There is one thing to be thankful for, they cut to a break before the riders started climbing out of Cheesebottom, that really would have sounded daft
