Reverse Cam Wipes out Dab Radio

Featured Replies

Having done a search this is not uncommon but i cant find a resolution/ I fitted a front Dash Camera AMACAM AM-M80 sometime ago  hardwired in which does the job and so small barely noticeable just what i wanted. Having been pleased with it i ordered the AM-M81 which has GPS etc etc and moved the M80 to the rear of the car powered from the cigar plug in the back. DAB was always not bad for where i live but since fitting the camera it now wipes out DAB and pretty much most of normal FM channels. I unplugged the cigar plug and all is good again. I am aware of chokes etc being used etc but has anyone with the same problem had any success resolving with a different screened lead or any other way of connecting to resolve this. I did read somewhere the Dab antenna runs down the passenger side of the car but if someone could clarify.

So as not to offend mi not interested in replies saying i have a gold plated whatever cam that cost £300 paid with gold moon beans and  have no problems because that doesn't help and  buying another cam is not going to be an option. I just wanted to know of any leads etc that may help  before i start to waste my money. Cheers in advance.

Try a quality 12v power - usb adapter. The cheap poor quality knock off copies can cause interference and stop the radio working. I had the same problem.

i have the same issue - ferrite chokes help a bit but dab only works when stationary and strong signal!

if anyone has a link to a proven quality 12v to usb adaptor that doesn't cause interference i'd be grateful!

I picked one up in Lidl a while ago for about a fiver (a twin output one) and it's fine.

My advice would be to use a genuine TomTom power adaptor as they give a very clean 5v without the RF interference that swamps the DAB signal.

I suffered the same frustration with hard wiring a dash cam and as someone earlier said, you need a good quality 12v to USB adapter. I did a bit of searching about the smoothness of the 5v supply and the way the conversion happens is the issue, often a chopped 12v signal giving an average 5v signal out the result is a really noisy supply that knocks out dab. Anyway, long story is that I solved it using a higher wattage rated adapter from Anker - works perfectly with no interference even when charging an iphone at the same time as powering the dash cam.

heres the Amazon link

Hope it solves your issue - it nearly drove me crazy.

If you are a hatchback the DAB antenna is the top 3 elements of the rear heated screen. Putting even the slightest bit of interference in this area with a rear dash cam will cause the DAB signal to drop out.

You need as clean a power supply as you can get :)

This must be why my signal becomes cr*p when I use my rear window heater!

As others have mentioned, use a decent 12 to 5v converter for powering the dashcam. I used a USB cigarette lighter socket charger and butchered it so that I have a positive and negative wire coming from it. This is soldered to my fuse tap on the positive and negative ground behind a bolt in the dashboard. The cigarette charger adapter is cable tied behind the glovebox so it doesn't move or rattle. Produces clean power without interference.

I investigated this evening and it would appear that the power source is not the problem. The camera when charged up alone is the issue. I have moved the camera half way down the screen not connected by 12v and its  the only way i get a signal. It definitely  interference  radiating from the camera
