08 vRS xenons

Featured Replies

Hello

Is there a way to tell what fitment xenons come with a 2008 Octavia vRS estate without taking one out?

I do not have the levelling adjuster knob next to the cabin light adjuster so I am assuming this means that I do have xenons fitted.

The issue I am having is that half of the websites out there suggest D1S and the other half D2S. I've searched and seem like D1S would be correct, but is there a way to confirm?

Thanks

Pretty sure they are D1S but it's a 30 second job to take a headlight out and check...

can't post pic, now given up

If its a pre-Fl I'm certain it will be D1s bulbs

Do you have the manual, it is in there. I remember as I had to look too once.

Luckily a 2008 Skoda got a decent manual that actually told you what bulb types the car uses.

Unlike the latest manuals where Skoda have decided to omit this information, idiots.

And this is called progress!!

Only progress in penny pinching, nearly as bad as the fuse layout label being nothing like the actual fuse layout in the fuse box :angry:

So I took the headlights out to check and they are H7u bulbs.

Confused as I don't have an in cabin headlight level adjuster.

Makes for a cheap replacement but confused/worried why it doesn't have xenons. I thought all vRS cars would have them.

How odd, its a good job you checked.  Do you have headlight washers?

Does your car have the washer jets for the headlights? If it doesn't have those it won't have factory fitted xenons.

Yep I have the head light washers too.

Not having the level adjuster but having the washers convinced me I had xenons.

I'm certain you have. I don't think the washers were fitted without having xenons. And the normal headlights should have the height adjustment switch. Mysterious! !

May be the previously owner had some sort of damage and swapped them for normal lights.  Do you have level sensors on the front nearside wishbone?

I can only think that it has been in an unreported smash and they've replaced the lights with non-xenons, or it is a mess up at factory from the start.

I replaced both bulbs with new H7 bulbs about an hour ago and couldn't spot anything which looked like a repair had been made.

Good shout for the level sensors. And on switching on the headlights they run through a level test so you should notice the beam dip down a little then rise back up to level.

This site http://igorweb.org/equidec.aspx claims to be able to decode the 3 letter/number option codes off the sticker in the front of the manual or the option plate under the boot carpet. That should tell you what options the car should have had out the factory.

Are the codes 8JX and/or 8Q3 on the option list?

I've decoded all the options codes from the sticker and no mention of headlights. Headlight washers have their own code though. Maybe it didn't have them to start with?

E0A = No special edition
1N3 = Speed-related variable steering assist (Servotronic)
4A0 = Without seat heater
7Q2 = Navigation system with color screen
3L3 = Manual height adjustment for front seats

6UB = Left exterior mirror: electrically adjustable, convex
H7D = Tires 225/40 R18 92Y xl
J0L = Battery 340 A (70 Ah)

2UC = Sports version

If it had halogen lights it MUST have manual adjustment unless it has auto adjustment (which only was with xenon lights on the octavia).
Also, you said you have H7U, they will have had H7 not H7U.

It does seem like your car never had xenons. Maybe the person who told you it did assumed they were there because the headlamp washers were present.

"8JX = Twin headlight for driving on the left (gas discharge) w/ integrated high beam" I believe is the xenon lights and, if I understand correctly, "8Q3 = Automatic headlight-range adjustment dynamic (self-adjusting while driving)" (the electronic self leveling) has to be present if you have them. I also believe it's a legal requirement in the UK for the 8X1 (headlamp washers) to be present on any vehicle with HID lights.

Just to add more confusion, my colleague at work has an '09 Octavia vRS and he doesn't have head light washers or headlight level adjuster in the cabin.

I'd be very surprised if a car with factory fitted halogen headlights didn't have a headlight level adjustment. Assuming these are UK cars, it should be to the left of the headlight switch next on the same facia as the dash illumination control. On auto-trader, all the vRS I looked at from 08-09 definitely have range adjustment.

Have you checked if your car has suspension level sensors? They should be fitted to the front and rear suspension on the passenger side. Much like these images.

Then the car is one of two things...

1) A non-UK import

2) Has had a poor quality crash repair

No UK vRS Octavia got xenon headlights as standard, they were only ever available as a factory fitted option.

vRS's with xenon's get the headlight washers as standard (legal requirement) and the manual beam adjustment knob is removed.

vRS's with standard halogens do not get the headlight washers (not available as a seperate option) and do get the manual headlight adjustment knob.

Whilst is isn't possible to differentiate the pre-FL headlights it is possible on the facelift (FL)...

Pre-FL vRS with xenon's (equipped with headlight washers)...
