I bought a set of OEM wind deflectors about a year ago, and fitted them forthwith. They were 'a bit noisy', as I noted at first, but I soon got used to it and didn't think much of it since then. Lately we've done a lot more high speed and motorway driving, and the road noise was really starting to pee me off, especially in windy weather or on exposed B roads. I honestly didn't give the deflectors much thought, as they've been fitted so long and so close to from-new that they were pretty much part of the car in my mind. Today after moaning that they don't actually stop rain getting into the cabin, I decided to remove them.

 

Where on earth has all the noise gone?

 

The car is so quiet (even at motorway speeds) it's unreal. I feel like I've traded it in for a new model haha. So, to the point of this fairly pointless thread - if you're considering wind deflectors, don't bother. Or if you must, get some quality after market ones that may actually stop rain entering the cabin in recompense for their horrendous noise. The Skoda ones I got were so shallow they didn't really serve any practical purpose. Rain still got in, you could only open the window a literal crack before you may as well not have a deflector at all, and the noise. God, the noise...

 

We've managed an extra MPG or two today as well. Not surprising considering how slippery modern cars are. Affixing two stonking great 'wings' to the windows isn't really going to help the drag coefficient lol. Anyway, here endeth the rant (and the resolution).

I had some aftermarket deflectors for my last Passat. I only fitted them for the hottest part of the summer and a trip to France, but they were noisy, so I removed them in the autumn. They were great if I left the tops of the windows open when parked and kept the interior dry if it rained. 

 

I used them them for two summers. I might consider getting some for my Superb, but wouldn't leave them fitted all the time.  

Had them on my pre fl octy 2, loved the look of them, have not got them on my fl octy 2 and have noticed it's a lot quieter on the motorway and the car actually feels more stable on the road where the wind dosen't catch the deflectors underneath, won't be fitting a set to this one.

It might be a stupid question but I will ask anyway. Why do you need to open the windows a small amount when modern cars have air-conditioning?

 

I think wind deflector look nice but I don't know why anybody needs them if you have air-conditioning

You obviously don't smoke.  I have only used an e-cig for the last three years but the habit remains (pardon the pun) to crack the window for the steam to escape. The wind deflectors (or at least properly designed ones) will also stop rainwater running into the vehicle from the roof when pulling away with the windows open. Air conditioning is nice, but depending on the weather and mood you can't beat some proper fresh air sometimes.

Do you have kids? I don't know about anyone else's but mine can drop right little stinkers sometimes. No amount of air conditioning will save you!  I'm sure we can all think of lots of reasons to open the windows if we try lol. 

Also helps stop the interior of the car fogging up if someone with wet clothes has been in there. I'm talking from e perspective of a taxi driver where we often have to park up between fares. If the car is slightly damp inside, opening the windows a bit helps to reduce fogging.
