Where can I mount my phone?

Featured Replies

Yeti due next week. I did not spec any additional audio toys so I will need to mount my phone somewhere I can turn Spotify on.

Any suggestions on good locations and mount types?

Forget the phone mount and ask your dealer to enable smartlink.

Spotify etc then available through the cars head unit and steering wheel. As well as NAV etc.

With 6 points and big fines for fiddling with your phone it's well worth it/

I turn the Bluetooth on and stick it in the cup holder.

Ours sit in the compartment on top of dash with bluetooth on for hands free phone and messages.

I have Brodit mounts in all of our cars. Excellently engineered bits of kit. The Yeti version does not disappoint:

Smart link far to expensive for what it is on lease and I may need to see my phone for sat nav if the in built one is as bad as people say.

I have used Brodit before and it was good in the C1 so will look in that direction again.

Smart link? Very expensive for what it is, I was also told my IPhone 7plus was not compatible.  I use Bluetooth you can scroll through your phone contacts by selecting phone in the maxidot display, easier and safer than the centralscreen.  For my satnav I mount my iPhone on the screen bottom right corner.

The iPhone is definitely compatible, smartlink enables Carplay and works brilliantly with my iPhone.

Can you tell me which (sat nav) apps are compatible with carplay ?

Just Apple Maps, I wish Waze worked personally!

There's talk of further apps being allowed in the future, so there's hope :-)

Well here is a daft question .... with the changes to UK law re driving and using a phone ..... can you still mount the phone where it can be operated and still use "apps" and not be in breach of the revised laws, which I believe are very specific ... you cant touch the phone regardless of what it is doing or function it is performing whilst the car is in motion, so you can only operate the phone or device functions using your hands whilst the car is parked and the engine stopped? Bluetooth operation/connection use is acceptable as "touching" the phone is not required.

Confused .... my normal state! :)

I have an Android phone and it is not on the list of compatible phones. Had mirror link on my C1 and it completely useless.

£150 is a lot of money for a small tick in a box to turn the software already contained on.

Compared to a fine and as a percentage of the total cost of ownership over the lease period it's pretty small. Especially if you use NAV and Audio Apps often.

But you do need a decent smart phone to begin with.

I agree!

I also wouldn't pay £150 for Smartlink, total rip-off. You can get half decent head units for that! I'd have liked it mainly for Spotify however you can still bluetooth Spotify audio and skip tracks, just can't change album which I get around by having a very long playlist.

This is the first car I have had what I thought was a decent factory unit, I've normally used after market units. For the price they charge you'd think the nav would be brilliant, Smartlink would be included and it would at least support gapless playback from SD. Very disappointed in the Amundsen II.
