Looking at a Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm looking at a VRS with quite a few tasty mods.. helix paddle, pd150 head bolts, intercooler, full miltek system, twin torque map, td 1.2s, quite a lot.. however the car is at 180k miles with full Skoda SH.. is this something to worry about 180k? Stay away? Or would it not be too much of an issue?

You were the one who said it was a GTB2269 VKLR, yes it's a 2260 but you can fit a 69mm billet compressor wheel or use the unit from a Merc which comes with one as standard.   It is very unu

  • Sorry for the lack of replies. Correct the car did sell and not to me!    However i have bought a standard 2004 Fabia VRS in Black  well I say standard.. 24 hours after I bought it I already

  • I currently have a 106 GTi track car as a daily. Cage, Perspex windows, one wrap round corbeau revolution, did have paddle clutch in it, they are horrible your right but not something I'm not used to!

Paddle clutches are truly horrible on a road car.

It's a Helix not too sure if it's a paddle if I'm honest! What about 180k? Safe? Or swerve?

What is in that Full Skoda SH, 17 or more oil and filter changes type of thing?

not entirely sure as I haven't viewed the car yet so can't comment on that, as far as I know all work has been carried out at Skoda and all services been taken out at Skoda too; believe an older gent owned the car before too but not entirely sure I'm asking about before going to view and waste his time

Be fine if it's been looked after.

JaamesVRS, welcome to the forum,

You might find BRISKODA has lots of older gents and gentettes, with tuned cars that are 'never raced or rallied'.

Or youngsters with parents or grandparents as 'Main Driver / keepers'.

Buy on what it is now not what it once was or someone claims it was.

That is extremely true ... suppose could of had an easy life.... but the last 10k could of lived in the redline, what sort of age related concerns should I look for, the car is priced at 2k. It's all the mods which appeal to me..

full miltek system

miltek decat

pd150 head bolts

helix clutch

fk track coilovers

brand new team dynamic 1.2

leathers from mk4 golf

Dark side hard pipes

egr delete

s3 intercooler

To name but a few I don't mind spending 2k as what's done is what I want to do in the future but if 180k is a steer clear then I rather would

Neither, buy the car based upon actual history and condition, only you can decide whether it's been looked after or not. Mileage means very little.

Okay cool! So if the car has had Full service undertaken at every scheduled period with evidence then it's worth a punt? The car has had Solid Flywheel conversion and helix clutch as well as a new turbo 3 weeks ago with proof, so clutch and turbo have been replaced, which I hear on these cars are prone to go as the mileage increases as they have been replaced depending on service history worth a look at?

Yes, any signs of neglect or missed services and you should swerve, listen carefully to the top end, tickover should be nice and even, any tapping from the top end once warmed up and it's game over.

Also, the gearbox can give trouble if abused, notchy shifts or crunchy gears are to be avoided.

You will be checking the V5 and the engine i hope, just to be sure the engine in the car now is the one that has this Full Main Dealer Service History which you take with a pinch of salt obviously.

He has told me the engine idles a little lumpy when the choke is on but that's it, once the choke switches off it's perfect. He said he put it down to the injector loom and has a brand new Skoda part he will include in the sale.

the only reason he is selling the car is because he has bought a B7 Audi A4 as just has a baby and wants to upsize.

Okay thankyou you for the replies it's certainly helping me when I view the car.

Anything else I should look out for ? Here's pictures of said car

It's a diesel, it doesn't have a bloody choke for crying out loud, if it ticks over nicely when warm then that's ok.

Lol!! That's a very good point! He said it's fine after it's warmed up a little!

Just tried to do an MOT history check but nothing comes up for that reg number.

The old reg is...

I just did pal; seems it's failed on silly things, tyres wipers etc; however it's failed on other stuff before slightly more serious which I imagine have been resolved as it's passed afterwards. The exhaust rotten etc isn't an issue as has the full miltek system now.. looking at the MOT history what's your honest opinion? I'm stabbing the dark really with these cars.. I'm new to the world of VAG and Derv!

Usually drive this this around however there's not a single part that hasn't been upgraded!

My VRS had 180k when I got it last year. SKODA service history apart from last 3 services.

Had it remapped almost as soon as I got it and dome over 10k since, and fingers crossed all still going strong.

106 will handle better and be faster, but the VRS will be ALOT more refined and the torque is addictive.

This is my opinion based on a comparison between my old 1.4 rallye and my current VRS.

The 106 has a single seat, satchshift cage and a dash.. no sound deadening no interior carpets/trim etc and returns roughly 15mpg, I'm currently running it on the road as a daily as it's silly and I've simply had enough of it; it will still be used on the track but I'm after more comfort and certainly more MPG hence going down the VRS route!

It's all the usual Fabia stuff. Nothing to worry about.

So it's worth a go? Or at least a look?
