Symphony code issue

Featured Replies

Hi to all, Bought a Fabia last year, 1st Skoda, it came with an aftermarket radio, I know this might seem strange to some but I wanted the 'original' look so bought a Symphony radio/CD player, the guy I got it from gave me a code which he said worked last time he used it, although he no longer had the car to verify, spoke with a skoda dealer, parts dept, who said he could check the code and it's the same that came with the radio, tried to install, using the techniques that people have said on this forum, radio off, ignition on, radio on, code in, all I can get is 'Safe 2', in the display, I've let it 'time out', all to no avail, looking on here it may be a trip to the dealer so the radio and ecu can be married together or is there another way, I know there is a local decoding place I could enquire with.

Regards

Hi

It will work in the car it came out of, as the code is kept in the car, but to fit it in yours you will

need to obtain one from the dealers

Hi, Thanks  for the info, re the code, is it the code for the radio I bought, or the code that came with the original radio with the car?

If it's the code for the radio I bought, I have that, if it's the code for the original radio, I possibly have that too, I have all the books that came with the car, there is a sticker in the radio manual with the serial number and a 4 digit code on it, but I've tried both numbers with no success.

Yes, Inputting  code correctly, radio off, ignition off, then ign' on, radio on, code in, press> for a couple of secs, then it shows 'SAFE 2',

Regards,

hi if you are sure the code is definately correct then really there is nothing you can do (apart from buying another unit from a reputable seller). I have had the same problem in the past i still have a symphony unit with correct code but it wont accept it, but i wouldnt sell it to an unsuspecting buyer obviously!

One final thought. Check the loom. Make sure there are no aftermarket extras in there.

Also, try powering it up off the car... i.e. you need red/yellow 12V feeds plus ground.

Hi Thanks for replying, there's no aftermarket wiring, it's 'direct' into the original skoda plugs/wiring, I've powered it up off the car, from a 12v power supply with the 12v to permanent and ground, it's an handy way letting the unit time out when you've put the wrong code in, I've tried all the codes I have whilst not connected but I assume because it's not connected to the ECU of the car it won't accept the code and work any way.

Going to contact a decode service to ask if it's possible to be done.

Regards, A.
