Paint warranty inspection charges

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a two yr old Yeti which has just been serviced by my local, non Skoda, garage that I've used for years. The inspection warning won't stop despite resetting the service warning. So thinking the inspection might refer to a paint warranty inspection I rang my local Skoda dealer in Colne, Lancs and have been informed that there is an £80 charge for a 1hr long inspection that needs doing each year to maintain the warranty. Am I being ripped off or is this normal?.

Thanks

Richard

The Body Inspection used to be done each 2 years at Major Inspection Warranties, but the Service Book had pages after Minor & Major Services and an inspection was supposed to be done at each Skoda Main Dealer Service, and the report filled in.

Then Online Service Records came in, the Bodywork should still be inspected.

Since it took minutes during a Minor or Major service where are these coming up with a 1 hour / £80 charge?

Likely because it is the minimum charge.

But then if someone wanted an Inspection @ a Main Dealer but do not get the vehicle serviced there then fair enough. IMO.

Minimum Charges are made for diagnostic's at Main Dealerships and they normally come up as an hour, plus VAT.

The garage you are using obviously aren't doing their job correctly if they cannot reset the service warnings, either because they don't know how, or they don't have the correct equipment. I would also be suspicious whether their work will help you in the future if you ever have to claim on the warranty in the 3 years it is current, or are capable of applying any "up-grades" provided by Skoda.

The inspection warning does not relate to the bodywork warranty.

I my experience the bodywork inspection forms part of the service done by my dealer at each mechanical service and is, I suspect, not charged as a good will gesture because they are being paid to mechanically service the car. If it is in the Service Charges as 1 hour and they charge £80 an hour then no you are not being "ripped off".

Another example (or 2) of why it is better to get the dealer to service the car whilst under warranty.

EDIT to add, £80 an hour is quite cheap for a main dealer; Audi charge £150 or more!!

Well thats interesting as my company lease car was serviced recently for its second high mileage service at 37000.

The car was valeted before the service and that revealed a patch of rust on the offside passenger door which was not mentioned to me or the lease company!

I suspect I am going to get my company charged for this as i had not taken it back for repair under warranty. Car goes back in 5 weeks time when it is 3 years old and can't get it sorted now.

Skoda UK can approve an Approved Repairer & a courtesy car for a Warranty Repair on a body in less than a month.

After all plenty of Lease Vehicles that go back into Skoda Dealerships are repaired and then offered for sale through the Skoda UK Dealership network and it does not mean they sit waiting for weeks to have bodywork done.

Thanks for your feedback, looks like I'll just have to bite the bullet. It's been about 25 yrs since I had a car new enough to think about warranties so just booked it in with my local garage without thinking it through as I was in a bit of a rush. I've always been happy with the work that they have done before and I'm sure they've done a decent enough job now, but probably don't have the diagnostic gadget that resets the inspection warning light. We live and learn.

Thanks again.
