Stupid bloody Vrs!! Engine warm wont start!!

Featured Replies

05 plate vrs with 66k on the clock, as above. Drive 3 miles from work to shop on way home from work, 5 minutes in the shop come out and it start then cuts out, then will not start. Car has full service history and has just been serviced as it happens.

Ive tried a search of a few things but nothing realy stands out as been the issue. Please tell me im not alone??

Sounds like some wiring got damaged during the service, check for plugs popped off sensors, also check for boost pipe off.

My apologies I should have said it was doing it before the service aswell. I wouldn't think was a boost pipe as its only when hot and there has been no drop in power to suggest a boost leak.

Its so intermittent as its not done it again since my original post

Short journey and non start?  EGR valve ?

I dont know on VAG engines but with other makes if the Ecu pickes up an Egr fault it will not start.

Was it cranking okay? Or dead?

No faults of any kind been logged, I wouldn't of thought it would be EGR but i shall do some digging. As for cranking over, its fine so is battery and alternator.

Its almost as if its not getting enough fuel or any at all. Fuel filter was changed at its service as I thought that could of been an issue but more I think about it then would have same issues all time and not intermittent

Fuel pump relay.

That could be a good shout!

When i turn ignition on i can here the fuel system priming, best way can describe it is a squelching sound but it doesn't always do it?? Should It? Me Grandad has a mk4 golf with same engine and theirs always makes the noise

maybe crank sensor or cam sensor .. see if rev counter moves when cranking .

Yes it should, if the lift pump isn't working properly the engine will not run, cam or crank sensor problems will give a fault code, fuel pump or relay will not.

AFAIK it does, doesn't sound any different except the fact it doesnt carry on and tick over

Excellent that starts to narrow things down. If my little bit of digging ive done this afty is correct should be relay number 4.

Fuel pump is in tank under back seat aswell I believe??

So a new thing happened today, short(ish) journey, turned off for 5 minutes max went back to car and it started then died, heard the "squelch " that time aswell. Couple of minutes sat waiting then fired straight up no issues??

Sounds daft but mine went through a few days of struggling to start and cutting out occasionally at junctions.

i put it down to a not so good batch of fuel as a soon as i refilled the car its now fine again and has been ever since. im not suggesting this is a cure to your fault but for me it emphasised the fact how rubbish the fuel from my local supermarket is!

since changed the fuel filter as a precaution.
