Air conditioning cost & recommendation

Featured Replies

Any idea how much an air conditioning refurbish on a Mk. II Fabia vRS should cost and whether it would actually end up with air conditioning that actually works?

Does anti-bacteria cleaning make sense?

If by refurbish, you mean re-gas then its a regular service schedule, so to speak. They recommend it every two years. The old gas is sucked out, the system checked for leaks and then regicide, with the correct amount of gas and oil, to lubricate. Ultraviolet dye can also be added at this stage, to help detect possible leaks in the future.

Many companies also offer a debac during this process, to eliminate bacteria (DUH) from the vents, etc in order to keep the car fresh. (A pollen /cabin filter will also be recommended here).

I think Skoda charge around £75 for this service but I am unsure as to if they add the dye.

There are mobile operators who do it and some are great and also offer a discount on multi vehicle service. (Perhaps at a group meet or if your household run more then one vehicle.

I have seen one company who have good reviews but I will need to look up their details, if you are interested. I believe they offer the debac inclusive, whilst others charge.

You can of course, use those simple debac "Bombs" you pop in the back of the vehicle whilst running the engine with the air-con on full. They can be quite effective and quite cheap.

Thanks for that MRGF, I would be interested to hear of any company with good reviews.  I was thinking of KwikFit or Halfords, I am always cautious of "mobile" guys,, there is no local Skoda dealership and then one I used for my last service was completely useless anyway.

Incidentally, I don't think you meant "regicide" that is murder of a King - bloody text guessing ;)

I have sympathy for your desire for a republic and hopefully a democratic meritocracy but advise not to go down this route or you will find your self in a world of trouble.

If there is no Skoda Dealership near maybe go to VW, Audi or SEAT one to have the AC service.

Sometimes there are 'offers' with the AC & Brake Fluid change done.

Yeah, regass... lol.

The air-con company I referred to is wechillanycar.com and they charge at the moment, £49.99 including a free debac service if you quote "free web offer". This is usually £20 extra, aparently.

Discount for multi cars, too!
