Question on active cylinder shutdown

Featured Replies

Dear All

A few questions.

Is it the same cylinders that shut down?

Or is the software clever enough to share the "rest period" to make sure there is no wear on any particular cylinder.

Can you switch this feature off.

Are you aware when this is occuring.

best regards

Paul

What engine does this happen on?

Thanks for the video Awayoffski.

I was not expecting such sophistication.

I would have thought that the injectors would be switched off so that less fuel would be used. I was not expecting that the cam shaft would be "switched off".

I am not to sure I would want to do a head gasket change on this engine lol.

best regards

Paul

Would you want to on any Euro 6 TSI / TFSI even if not ACT/COD ?

The new 1.5TSI's will be in VW Group vehicles soon, maybe worth the wait there is a reason for them to move on from 1.4TSI / TFSI's.

VW caught out as usual, this time Implausible / Irregularities in Co2 g/ km / MPG's from EU testing as was.

Answers :

Yes

N/A the pistons keep going, but valves are partly open to avoid compression

Don't think it can be turned off, (not sure if isolated in S (sport) mode)

Maxidot shows when active, not going to feel it

The new 1.5tsi has variable manifold geometry additionally which improves torque at low revs (250Nm from as low as 1500 revs)

It also uses the Miller cycle (inlet valve closes slightly after start of compression stroke)
