Music converter

Featured Replies

I guess this should be under the tech section but I have searched there to no avail.

some time ago I asked which software (free?) is best used to convert music to MP3 for use on an sd card.

i got a few suggestions but can now not find the thread.

Any ideas most gratefully received, thanks.

Windows Media Player, iTunes, VLC are ones that immediately spring to mind and which many people will already have on their computers. They each can be used to output MP3's. The source of your music files might make a difference.

- correct typo.

What music are you trying to convert? Is it another digital format or do you want to rip from CD?

As above, I just used Windows Media Player for ripping my CDs to MP3.

If you are using an Apple computer the AAC format is fine in the SD player. The major problem people seem to have is not with the format of the music (most are fine now with Skoda radio units) but with the album artwork. Generally that has to be in jpeg format while many music players use other file systems.

Sorry for not explaining fully but I want to export my iTunes music to MP3. I understand that iTunes can convert it but then one has two copies of the music and you have to delete the iTunes ones which appear alternatively in the library. Ok for a track or two but not for sixty odd CDs worth. So, what I am looking for is a way to export from iTunes format (whatever that is) to MP3 in bulk!!

I realise it may not be possible, but I have to try.

MP3 was 'killed' by it's creators just this month.

It's still around they've just ended any licensing agreement with the format becasue the patents are expiring.

Also they say the sound quality is not good compared to newer formats.

Do you know what you'll be using them on? Might be better to use another format like OGG or FLAC to have a high quality backup (but I don't know how you'd do that).

Why do you need to convert?

dbpoweramp batch convertor....

I use mp3 (320rate) for the car, as that's the best it'll take! I use flac for the main network player & have genuine 24bit 196khz studio master downloads for some of my music.....

oh yes....
