Servicing Costs

Featured Replies

Hi all, my wife has a Fabia III 1.0 SE which we bought as a pre-reg car last year.

The car's first service was due a few months after purchase, and therefore we struck a deal to have this done for free when we made the purchase.  It's now therefore time for us to have the car serviced again (and pay for it ourselves!).

So, the car is 2 years old and has about 1.5k on the clock (I know!).  We've been quoted £195 for the upcoming service, which would apparently drop to £110 for the next, whilst it appears both are simply inspection/oil change services.

I have my own Skoda serviced at a local specialist, who I know will perform an oil/inspection service (including a full strip-down of brakes/wheels) for £160, and I'm tempted to get the Fabia done here also.

Anyone got any advice as to the seemingly high service price at Skoda?  I thought Skoda had a fixed price policy?

Skoda UK does have a National Pricing Policy for vehicles over 3 year old, which is the issue.

That is £149 for that Minor Service & £269 for a Major Service at participating Dealers.

That can  be cheaper at non ripping off non participating dealers.

So fixed servicing would be at 9,400 miles / 372 days, and on Variable 20,000 / 2 years.

Major Services would be that Variable, or as you would get at 2 Years with Fixed Servicing.

You need to talk with a Dealership that will do what the car needs.

Oil / Filter, Pollen Filter, Inspection, Body Inspection for Warranty THIS IS IMPORTANT, Brakes and what ever.

(if the body inspection is not done at Services some Dealerships want £80 plus VAT to do just that to keep Paint / Corrosion Warranty valid.)

Do not get ripped off with a Major Service that brakes will have nothing but a look see at.

Do not pay for a Major Service if it is a Minor but at 2 years.

No Spark Plugs, Air Filter or the like provided / fitted.

Pay for what needs doing, not for washer fluid if full, not for a 'Free Wash & Vacuum' etc.

Use the independant's price as a bargaining chip and haggle hard with the Skoda main dealer.  Always works for me.  Having the car serviced by Skoda will give you some protection should you need to make a warranty claim or seek a goodwill gesture out of warranty.
