Clutch question tfsi vrs

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I'm having an issue with the clutch pedal in my car. About a year ago I replaced the clutch and dmf. Before changing the clutch, the problem was that when disengaging the clutch the pedal would come about halfway then stop for a second and then pop the rest of the way after my foot is fully off it..with the new clutch fitted it's still doing it... Everything works perfectly...no issues depressing the clutch or the engagement of the gears etc, but also it doesn't do it all the time...it seems to come and go... It's just starting to annoy me now as I now own the car. Any help would be great

Unlikely to be the clutch, dmf or slave then as problem was there before it was changed - so no need to remove the gearbox. Start at the pedal (or gearbox) and work your way along the system.

When you release the pedal, do you have full drive or does it slip as the pedal returns? What you need to know is that the only thing pushing the pedal back up (apart from a return spring if there is one, check under the dash on the top of the pedal) is the spring action of the fingers on the clutch. If it was clutch related, then you would get slip as you release the pedal, hence the problem is external. Now, it could be related to the bleed connection (there have been mods done, and they are known to crack and cause problems), the damper unit in the hydraulic line (unlikely though, usually pretty reliable), or even the master cylinder itself (most likely). Make sure the fluid level is correct in the reservoir as well, too much fluid can cause some weird effects on the pedal too.

If you were getting a symptom where the pedal was being pulled away from your foot when you accelerate, then there may be a gearbox issue developing related to the input shaft bearings.

It's after the disengage point of the clutch when it happens. I'm going to have it up on a ramp later and I'll have a look through again and see can I find anything. Fluid is perfect and nothing's leaking...as I said it's not actually causing any issues with the clutch...but.its more of an annoyance now so I'd like the get to the bottom of it
